High end laptop - where to buy?

Looking for a high end laptop, budget is £2,000 will be using it for 3D modeling etc (not rendering though) need a laptop as often have to go to clients to show work/work at multiple locations.

Really need some advice on high end laptops that would be suitable for this, only place I know that does them is Alienware!

Dell do the Inspiron M6600 range that seem to fit the bill.

Lenovo?

I've got a Thinkpad W500 here with a FireGL V5700 paired with a 1920x1200 screen. It also has the standard intel onboard graphics which you can switch to to extend battery life.

++ on the recommendation for lenovo. my t60p which i bought over 5 years ago is still going strong and still beats modern laptops into a cocked hat. i have only had to replace the battery. oh and it has traveled with me everywhere for that time.

I'm looking at the Lenovo stuff as suggested, it worries me a little that they are stocked at PC World should this put me off or not? (Often find PC World stock out of date computers at silly prices)

I would buy a W520 from lenovo's site seams to fit your need perfectly also atm there running ~£200 off list price atm.

The Thinkpad W series that I have is a mobile workstation - different kettle of fish to what PC World stock.

As Al mentions, buy direct from Lenovo and there are some hefty savings on at the moment. The added bonus is you can pick your spec - and so tailor it to exactly what you want

Any of the Thinkpad range from Lenovo will do the tasks required. Plus the build quality is excellent. Either go for something from the T, or W series. The W (Workstation) series have a bit more grunt, but the trade off is they are slightly larger/heavier.

Having said that I previously had a W500 that got used everyday for work. Lugged about to multiple different sites, round Switzerland, Germany, the states, and when I was on holiday in Japan. Didn't skip a beat.
Still in perfect working order when it was time to change. The support is second to none as well.

Only the W and G series have 17 inch models according to their website:

Cheers guys, really like the look of the Lenovo W520 would have liked a 17" screen, but maybe the smaller screen will make it easier to carry from place to place. (Know I had problems finding a bag that would fit my 17" MBP)

Yeah Lenovo dont do any 17" laptops, the 15.6" is 1080p though. They are the best laptops ever tbh

And thinkpads are the only laptops certified for the international space station

Funnily enough Rock do a six core Core i7 970 based laptop for around £2100. OTH,I suspect for modelling purposes a faster quad core and the appropriate graphics card might be a better choice.
