There is a very good introduction to HDMI cabling requirements here.

and specifically on HDMI 1.4 compliance here

I might be wrong here but i always thought branded means something that was made from a known company who specialises in that department. Like say Sony is to a TV or Audi is to a car.
Would you buy an unknown, untested chinese/indian car? I wouldn't. I would buy somewhere where a brand is "known" because they have been in the business for long.
I completely understand the issue of generic or branded cables. But if i were to choose from a £10 generic cable to a £10 branded one i would def go for the later. I know its is still the same HDMI cable but i just feel more confident in owning a branded one.
And that is exactly the consumer trap they want you to fall into.
I know of plenty of situations where the "branded" item was exactly the same as the unbranded no name item.
And I don't mean similar I mean exactly the same, very often what you think of as a branded item is in fact just some generic item that was manufactured in China and rebadged with some big company name and resold

I have never paid more than 3 quid for an HDMI cable- and the 3 quid one was bacause I needed a right-angled plug on one end due to the stupid positioning of the HDMI sockets on my 60" Plasma telly. Every HDMI cable I have ever owned still works perfectly as far as I'm aware.
Most recently I bought 3 2m HDMI cables from the Sharp Outlet store on ebay- for a grand total of £2.97 delivered. I only needed one (for my in-laws), but thought I might as well get a couple of spares for 99p each. I've just been and tested one with my slim PS3 and the only 3D 1080p blu-ray that I own- Tron- and to my complete lack of surprise, it works perfectly, despite no apparent proper HDMI logo anywhere on the cable.
Buy the cheapest HDMI 1.4 cable you can find unless you genuinely are going to be plugging/unplugging/otherwise molesting it a lot. 1.3b will almost certainly work absolutely fine as well.

Ask for the dealer from where you purchased the ps3 or YOu can order it online as many websites use to sell them.
1m HDMI cable in 99p stores, Poundland or Bargain stores.
There really is no visible difference in picture quality between the cheap and expensive HDMI cables. While working for a huge high street electrical retailer we had a pair of Pionner Kuros (Still believe those TV's have never been trumped for picture quality) set up side by side one with a basic poundshop style HDMI cable and the other using a Belkin white gold oxygen free super fancy pants £150 cable.
It quickly became apparent there was zero difference so the display was changed to compare Component and HDMI after a vsisit from a very unhappy Belkin Rep paid a visit to the store
