Masonic Brotherhoods
I'm pretty sure I'm allowed to talk about this on here, so long as I don't divulge any 'particulars' related to my lodge...
I'm just interested to see how many of you lot are a member of one? how far 'up' are you and what do you think it's changed about you or your life?

Re: Masonic Brotherhoods
Are these things actually real? I always thought they were a figment of some sci-fi writers imagination, much like the Illuminati.

Re: Masonic Brotherhoods
oh they're real
And no...you shouldn't be talking about them. Because: A: They're a little...wierd B: HEXUS forum is more useful than a bunch of retired Police Inspectors and a butcher C: If you were high enough in a lodge, you'd not need to ask |

Re: Masonic Brotherhoods
I have family and friends who are 'on the square' and they're far from weird, do a lot of good work and (as far as I know) are not lizard people or pulling the strings of world leaders to their own little dance.

Re: Masonic Brotherhoods
I know 2 people at work who are part of the same "group". The trouble is the higher one of the 2 in the group is also a senior manager at work and looks after the other one very well. To the point where I have nearly made a complaint about it but then I just think what's the point.
So this has given be a bitter view of what these groups are like and because of this I would not be be bothered if they where both to die in a fire, or some other unpleasant and painful way

Re: Masonic Brotherhoods
I think the Masons got some pretty bad press a few years back - In personal experience most of the Masons I've met ( young and old ) are great people , and enjoy what they do - there's a couple of bad eggs , but I think they where just onanists before they joined the masons
![]() Its not my personal bag - and as long as it doesn't affect me , then I'm not worried about it. I find butchers very useful Zak I'm fairly certain HEXUS isn't about to become the latest Masonic recruitment stream.

Re: Masonic Brotherhoods
My Father in law was a member of the Masons. He's reasonably normal
![]() It's the private nature of the Masons that makes some people think it's weird. You know - "what are they hiding?" But at the same time, if it wasn't secretive, it wouldn't be the status symbol it is now. Eshrules - you can't start a thread on this and not expect a few comments that you disagree with. Not only is it a public forum, it's the General Discussion forum where people will take the mickey out of other things, no matter what it is ![]() If you're a member of an organisation that prides itself on being different from other people, you should expect other people to point out how different you are.

I just don't get certain people who respond with nothing more than sarcasm, that's all ![]() and thanks for explaining how general discussion on a forum works I kinda already knew that lol

Re: Masonic Brotherhoods
Much of the Masonic traditions of secrecy come directly from the traditions of the medieval guilds who maintained the 'mystery' of their various crafts.

Re: Masonic Brotherhoods
The only thing i know about lodges comes from Sons of the Desert.
I didn't think that they served a purpose any more, and i have to be highly suspicious of any group that tries to affect certain portions of a society behind closed doors. Then again, for all i know they get rat-arsed and spank each other silly.

Re: Masonic Brotherhoods
My father in law was a member of the masons for a long time, don't think he ever got anywhere though. Also a good friend of mine is still part of the masons. They haven't divulged any secrets to me unfortunately.

Re: Masonic Brotherhoods
my father & uncle were both masons (I'm not).
As long as they do no harm & maybe even do some good (which they do) I don't have a problem - you could even say that Hexus (or other internet community) is just a modern equivalent

Re: Masonic Brotherhoods
I played with a swing band at a Masonic lodge a few years back. Was a strange experience but pretty cool. There was a toast to the queen, I think, but nothing conspiratory (at least not while we were there!
). It was a LOVELY house, looked very old and had it's own ground.
