It's been all over the news... FPS Faster payments service, went live this week.

You can check your sort code at some website that they run as well to see if it has that fast thing enabled.

I had to pay a deposit on my new apartment today, yet even with the changes they still demanded a bankers draft. Until companys accept that it is instant (hours) then it will still be annoying as hell.

Yup, though different banks are rolling it out at a different rate.
What is going to happen to CHAPS payments - ie the ones they use to charge you for iirc?

Noticed an advert on this earlier and the minimum time needed they said was 30 minutes, I'm sure one of my recent transactions was only in terms of minutes.... :-)

Yup, one of our business transactions came through same day (although it could have been 'cause the client was at the same bank as us, as that's been common practise for a while now) which suprised the hell out of me as I wasn't expecting it until next week.

A&L are a founding member of the scheme, so I'd guess they're just rolling it out stage by stage.alliance-leicester = no
Will also be interested to see when A&L puts this into effect.
