    Perfection just got better.

    http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/10/s...d-and-a-100-p/

The refresh of the sony vaio P, I am in constant love of mine. It can not only run visual studio but expression blend, on an 8 inch computer.... One can fit it in their inside jacket pocket without it ruining the line of their suite!

It is noticeably lighter than an iPad, with a better screen, battery life suffers unless you have the extended battery which makes it only 19 grams lighter than the iPad.

It runs software better than a netbook due to slightly higher spec parts, the SSDs in them are quite decent.

And now they add these strange touch pads that could really work quite well. Oh well I'd better wait another 10 months before upgrading.

    Re: Perfection just got better.

I'd prefer a touchscreen to a two-handed touchpad, tbh. It just looks gimmicky, and uncomfortable to hold! Now, if they added a touchscreen and then made it slide over the keyboard in a tablet-converty-style thing, it might justify my second problem with it... the price!

That said, it's certainly the best atom-based device out there at the minute... I'm just waiting for the dual-touchscreen netbook / ereader devices, as I think they could be game-changing...

    Re: Perfection just got better.

I've held it like that for about 2 hours worth of video I was watching, whilst on a sleeper bus type thingie.

Holding it without worrying about how you move your fingers it was comfy, I don't know how long it would take for your fingers to hurt if you where hafving to be careful about moving em.

That said I felt the nipple on the current one was really good and didn't need changing, so this mearly has to be better, else it will be swiftly turned off

Fair enough. I really am a touch input freak, I'm afraid. I love my HTC Magic to bits, but the screen's too small to use it effectively for a lot of the mobile functionality I'd like. Something in the 7" - 8" range with an all-touch interface would be ideal for me...

I've been thinking about a P series for use at airports, on planes and so on which in my current job I'm doing far too much for my liking. I'll see if I can get my hands on one of these and then probably give the company credit card some abuse.

scaryjim, touch on something like this would be quite limiting.

Its a 1600x768 resolution screen, in 8inches...... My fingers are big, but worst yet, not transparent. I think you would need a stylus and a surgeons dexterity to get the same abilities that a nipple with good use of response to acceleration can provide.

I really wish they had not put such a weak processor in it, really wanted a dual core 64bit processor. I am also waiting to see what the Asus TimelineX 1830T turns out like. Everything except the processor (and it being sony) is perfect with the viao.

The optical touchpad, if it is anything like the one in my Xperia X1, is a bloody brilliant idea, works really well.

That said, given the prices the previous P series retailed for, and the fact I have no particular use for it, I doubt I'll be getting one.

But you just can't fit something like that in such a small package. You could probably have 3 P series in the weight of one 11 inch netbook like that 1830T.....

    Around $1,000 depending on config.

If its like previous ones that will be £500 to £1200 depending on things like SSD, CPU and 3G/GPS when retailing in the UK.

You're almost certainly right - it would definitely want a stylus (but then I'd want a stylus anyway ) if it had a touch screen. And it wouldn't be as accurate as a mouse / trackpad / touchpad / nipple / etc. I just don't think that would bother me too much. I guess what I'm saying is perfection is relative, perhaps?

    Re: Perfection just got better.

I was tempted with one last year, but ended up with a Lenovo netbook for half the price instead.

Tempted with one again to replace the netbook sometime this year. Shame there is no deep red version. If I got the all black one, there is a distinct danger of it "going missing" after my better half sees it.

There is a huge premium for the space saving design.

For me been able to have it in a jacket pocket just is worth the in the higher models £400 premium!

Next time ur at a hexus meet have a play!

    Re: Perfection just got better.

I never appreciated how convenient it was to have a very portable little netbook with me pretty much everywhere I traveled until I actually bought one. Now I can better imagine how portable a P series would be.

The only down side is I would need to take my external USB drive with me most places as well, I'm now used to having 500GB in the Lenovo, but I guess the Sony would be a 1.8" drive.
