Thumbs down LG 226WTQ from Scan - Ghosting Issues!

    Hi,

Bought one of these from scan last week. I'd read the reviews but most of them said that European models didn't have the ghosting issue. This was wrong. The one i bought had v1.8 of the firmware on it and its got major ghosting problems in all my games. Just to confirm it was this i did the mspaint test (red circle on a grey background, then move the window about). The ghosting was then obvious.

Does anyone know have a latest update from LG on this or should i just get a refund?

    Thanks, Dink

Talk to scan and see what they'll do about it. You have 30ish days to send it back no questions asked I believe.

Are you just seeing the normal RTC overshoot artifacts? If so it's probably not a defect - if you have an ATI card you can use the LCD overdrive controls to minimise the effect.

(overshoot artifacts are when the trail behind a moving pixel is brighter than the colour of the thing moving)

It's seven from day of delivery, under distance selling regs.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

I'm using an NVIDIA 320MB 8800GTS - is there an nvidia tool to do the LCD overdrive? The ghosting is really noticable in games. In MOH Airbourne, for example, when you move round all the walls and objects have really wierd colours showing up. When you are stationary its fine. Also happens in HL2 Episode1 and SC Double Agent as well??

It does sound like overshoot to me. Have you tried changing the monitor settings? Specifically see if you can turn RTC off, but you might be able to find some general mode like text or something that doesn't have it. Also try turning the brightness down a bit - my LG204 is more than bright enough at 67%.

Re: LG 226WTQ from Scan - Ghosting Issues!

Getting a little further with this, going off my research i need to turn RCT off. Not sure how too yet though... However, found this posting what someone received from LG
"The WTQ is a newer version of the 226WT, with response time compensation. LG added the response time compensation to claim a 2ms response time, but the tech support guy I spoke with said that, with the exception of some console systems, it is impossible to notice a difference between 5ms and 2ms. I told him about the ghosting issue, and he said it was normal...and if it was bothering me, to return the WTQ for a WT or WTX.

Also, all three LCDs use the same panel according to the guy I spoke with. "

Thought it might be useful for other people having issues with this.

Hi Dink, I have this monitor and haven't noticed any ghosting issues. Only trouble i have is making the tilt stand stay in the forward position (always flops back).
Hope you sort out the RCT problem...i havent the foggiest how to change it either.

Re: LG 226WTQ from Scan - Ghosting Issues!

Problem Solved!! The monitor was setup wrong out of the box. In the LG service menu it stated that the panel was 'CMO22W 4L' This means that the panel was not LG, it was made by Chi Mei Optoelectronics, which is apparently unlikely. So i just changed the PANEL option to LPL22W 4L (LG-Phillips) and hey presto no more ghosting. Happy Days. Thanks for the input though staffsMiike and Kalniel. Cheers, dink

Re: LG 226WTQ from Scan - Ghosting Issues!

I've just looked at mine and it was setup as CMO22W.4....i have two other choices..either LPL22W.4 or LPL22W.G.4.
Any ideas which is the best to choose for me?

    Cheers, Roo

Re: LG 226WTQ from Scan - Ghosting Issues!

hi roo, the one i chose was LPL22W 4L, this solved the ghosting issue for me. I tried my games last night as well and they're all fine now. If you don't have ghosting issue though i think i would say 'if its not broke don't fix it' You could try the mspaint test.... Open mspaint, fill the background with grey, then draw a red circle. Now move the mspaint window around your screen and see if you see a whiteish halo around it as it moves. If you do then you might have the same issue as i had, therefore change your PANEL setting to LPL22W 4L.

Thanks roo, i'm chuffed myself. Love the monitor didn't really want to have to get another. Excellent quality picture oh and the 22" TFT market seems like a minefield at the moment

Re: LG 226WTQ from Scan - Ghosting Issues!

Ive stumbled across this thread and Im pretty sure mine is suffering the same problem. For example in Counter Strike Source, if I move my mouse quickly any characters or "corners" of walls have a thick goldish haze around them on the opposite side to the direction the mouse is moving, ie if I move my mouse to turn left, the characters will have the haze on the right side. Its very annoying but until I came across this thread I presumed it must be a fault in the ATI drivers Im using.

How do you get in the service menu?

Slinger, to get to the service menu, when the monitor is powered off, hold down the menu button then power the monitor on, then let go of the menu. When the monitor powers up press the menu button again and this will bring up the service menu
