Are You Going To Purchase a 4K Monitor?

We're conducting a poll to learn how many of you are going to purchase a 4K monitor in the near future. We'd be grateful if you could you post your thoughts about 4K monitors as well, listing the Pros & Cons for whether you are planning to buy one or not. Thanks.

I didn't vote on the poll as multiple options apply really.
Yes, I'd love a 24-27" 4K 60Hz IPS panel, however:
a) Can't afford something with those specs - if it exists.
b) There's no way I have the graphics power to run it at native res for games, meaning that for gaming I'd run at 1080p like I normally do - so doesn't seem great value. Also, in the majority of OSs UI scaling isn't there yet (let's hope a linux does it without too much faffing in the near future and Windows 10 supports it nicely), so it doesn't seem a brilliant investment for the majority of work I do (text based) even though some extra real estate would be nice.

I would also be inclined to upgrade to a set of hardware supporting freesync if I were to go for it.

Looking to get one one day, but waiting for the holy grail of excellent colour accuracy & coverage, response time, variable refresh rate (up to quite high) in an affordable 24 package.

Would like to also go freesync, but awaiting reviews demonstrating it working well

Waiting for a decent £300 IPS 2560x1440 27" screen TBH. Current GFX Cards that don't need their own substation can't drive a 4k screen. Maybe there will be a ~100 watt Card that can drive 4k when we see 14/16nm cards?

I already have one, and I think it's great - a 28" TN (Samsung).

In the future, I'd like to upgrade to a larger screen to make the content a touch easier to read, and perhaps IPS plus refresh-rate sync capability, but I expect the cost will be prohibitive.

I luv my 2 x 23" LG IPS monitors, no reason to upgrade. May be after 5K becomes mainstream, doubt it so.

The cost of a 4K monitor is one thing, but being able to run at the settings I currently use would cost as much again. That and the lack of higher refresh rates, which would also cost more to utilise.

No. Not any time soon.

Why? I don't see the point. For screen space, I'd rather have multiple monitors. For gaming, I don't have the hardware to drive 4k at high refresh, and so would much rather have lower res at higher refresh. Even for Photoshop, nothing I do needs 4k, or really would much benefit from it.

So no, my next monitor will be to replace, or complement, this one and won't be 4k. Don't see the point, for me.

Probably, I think it's just one of those fads. I'm perfectly happy with my Dell 24".

I would like the extra resolution for cramming more code on to my screen, and I would like a physically larger display, but running side-by-side 1080p screens scratches the itch just fine for now.

Having said that, if I had the money (and some monster gfx cards) then I'd more than likely get one, ignoring the fact the technology is not very mature yet.

Not voted I'm not interested in going 4K yet BUT I do want to replace my monitor with a 30+inch 21:9 1440p monitor

No plan yet, my 2 x Dell 3007 will do me for now, 4k isn't going to offer me much apart from having to buy a second GPU.

Once 60"+ 4K TVs are the right price and my HTPC will be able to game at ~4k, then I may jump for the front room.

Can't afford and I don't even know if my single 780 Lightning will do 4K... I expect it won't.

I think I need to see one to decide whether I want one.

I notice Ebuyer has one on offer today which is in the same price range as 2560x1440 (which I was more interested in getting) so I guess that is 2.5K format pretty much dead if 4K is the same price.

But still, I can see needing a new GPU, and from what people are saying an update to Windows 8.1 because Windows 7 doesn't handle scaling properly? The cost and the hassle factor starts adding up to the point I could see a 4K monitor being driven at 1080p or 1440p because Win7 can do that.

So there you go, uncertainty is driving me away. I might just get a good 1920x1200 IPS panel, I know that will work for me.

I don't think so. I'm very used to my 27" 1440p that I use at the moment and the ultrawides actually seem to have less 'eye wonder' than my current monitor due to the less height and when doing productive things as it's basically like having 2 screens side by side and you are only really working on one side at a time... then jump into a movie/game and its immersive.
