HELP-I THINK I FRIED MY Q6600 (Go steping)

i was playing a game when suddenly my pc swtiched off....my mouse still had its led lit but my computer wouldnt turn on so i changed my motherbioard and it still wouldnt turn on...i had overclocked my q6600 to 3.42 Ghz and the voltage to 1.38v a day earlier and the temp didnt go over 65c at full load also the day earlier i applied some thermalpaste which helped the system stay cool but i had a cheap 450watt psu with hd4850...i think its either my psu that fried or more likly my cpu..however when i looked at my cpu it didnt have any burn marks any ideas?

i was using the ga-p31-s3g mobo

    thanks

Re: HELP-I THINK I FRIED MY Q6600 (Go steping)

are you sure its not your PSU?

I would 100% say PSU here

Q6600 OC and that graphics card on a "cheap PSU" is asking for trouble.

You could have done more damage.

Re: HELP-I THINK I FRIED MY Q6600 (Go steping)

I have had the motherboard lights on but no boot duw to PSU issues. They run on rails, one rail goes then it won't boot (depending on what rail is bust)

Re: HELP-I THINK I FRIED MY Q6600 (Go steping)

Glad you got to the bottom of your problem.

I would have thought PSU first as you would have smelt and known something was seriously wrong if the CPU went south.

Get a good solid make PSU this time round. Corsiar , OCZ , Thermaltake , Seasonic all do nice high end modular PSU's nowdays for a reasonable price.

    Are you serious?

If so send it back and get a quality psu as recommended by McstylisT. The corsair VX450 or anything similar should be fine for you.

You are asking for trouble if you put that ezcool psu in your pc. They have been well known to blow up and take out other components.

    No, you must be kidding!

That's no better than the 'cheapy psu' you had in the first place.

Do what shadowmaster, McstylisT and inonefly mentioned above.

You pay for quality. I understand its very tempting to skimp on psu's, but trust me there is one part of the pc you dont skimp on and thats the psu.

Check around at scan 'today only', they often have this superb fsp 700watt psu for around £30 inc delivery, so if you have a tight budget that psu is ideal

You can get a good solid psu for around £30 to £45.
