Use your Wiimote on PC
Well, it was going to happen I suppose. A driver of some sort has been written to allow a wiimote to be used on pc's. Works by mapping keys to the movements of the wiimote, (I maybe wrong, but thats how I understood it). You need a bluetooth dongle for connectivity between the pc and wiimote.
Here is a video of someone playing half life 2 with the wiimote: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asY_I8y6C0M And here are pages for the driver/software download: http://wii.qj.net/Wiimote-your-PC-wi...g/49/aid/74925 http://carl.kenner.googlepages.com/glovepie_download I've read some people on other forums testing this and reporting it as working. Seems not to be a hoax. |

Can confirm it works, you need compatible Bluetooth drivers and dongle but it does work. Initially it is really inaccurate but when you mod the code to suit your wiimote it works fine!!! Very coolly, apparently it also works with IR, but I need some IR LEDs first.

I would love to have a play with this, but have neither a wiimote or bluetooth dongle.
Yet another reason to add to the list to get a wii. Hang on, is there anything stopping me from getting a copy of wii play, or just a spare wiimote and a bluetooth dongle and having a tinker with this software on my pc. In other words, is there anything I need from the wii hardware system package that is a necessity in making this work? Do I need a sensor bar? |

You just need a wiimote and normal bluetooth dongle to make it work. If you want to run the wii mote as a pointer then you need an IR source, IR LEDs and candles work!!!

Well, I have an IR source for my tv card. But main reason for this would just be for having a remote for main pc. I use it as a media pc at times, and would be useful to be able to have it turn volume up and down, skip tracks, etc. I know I can get a normal media remote to do those things, but imo they look well fugly. Have been looking for something similar to the apple remotes used for front row, and since I will get a wii in the new year, this looks to be a sound investment.

Not sure that will work, you need something giving off constant IR from two sources.

Well, went out and got a wiimote today. And have been playing about with it all day on PC. Its amazing how quick they have made progress with the interaction between pc and wiimote. If things carry on this way, it surely wont be long until a driver is actually released and you can use this thing quite easily with games and apps.
Currently trying to sort out some sort of LED bar to enable correct mouse cursor control. Played a bit of COD2 and Quake 3 using the wiimote, I think until the led function is sorted it, fps games won't play that nice. Does make a nice general remote for the pc. |
