Another temp check before 1st ever OC

Posted here a few weeks ago and comments were that temps were a little high, see --> this thread

I got some better thermal paste a few days ago (arctic silver ceramique) and applied it as per instructions on the arctic silver site. Bedding in period has now passed. here is another screenshot of my temps in a few apps after orthos has been running for about an hour:

things seem a few degrees cooler than before but not as dramatic as I'd hoped, are they still a little on the high side for OCing?

If so, I may be able to do something by getting a fan controller and ramping up chasis fans 1 & 2 (see everest) as they are quite slow. These are just fans that came in my case, will a fan controller be able to increase them or do you need special fans?

i suppose they are quite high for ocing, before i oced my amd athlon 4200 x2, its load temp was 52c, so the target was 60c etc. but wait for other intel c2d owners to comment on load temps. im sure it's lower for them.

Re: Another temp check before 1st ever OC

If the chassis fans are already running at 12 volts, then you won't be able to speed them up further. So see what voltage you're supplying.

It's hard to say what your temps actually are... although I'm personally not inclined to trust speedfan much, so I guess your cores are at about 60+ C when under load. That seems kinda hot to me before starting to overclock.

Could you post your results with CoreTemp 0.95.4 please?

With my Q6600 G0 overclocked to 3GHz my cores rarely go above 55 C (using coretemp) under full load on all 4 cores.

Re: Another temp check before 1st ever OC

Coretemp always crashes on my system, no idea why, but it was running for about 10 minutes with orthos running as well and cores 0 and 1 were both at 58...

Not sure how to find out the voltage of the chasis fans?

Any advice on bringin the temps down?

It basically just looks like your heatsink is a bit crap to me

Maybe it's concave on the bottom or something?

As for voltages... normally the bios is a good place to look. I don't know anything about Asus mobos though.

damn, the heatsink got really good reviews, but I noticed when i redid the thermal paste that there were a lot of scratches on the bottom so maybe it was just a bad one. I've had a probably over a year now as well so maybe it's just worn out or sumthin....

I'll check those voltages next time I reboot...

Re: Another temp check before 1st ever OC

Couldnt see anywhere in the bios for fan voltages, although when I was messing about with the AI turner thing one of the chassis fans went up to 2200 rpm so maybe there is some spare voltage to play with....

might have to get me a thermalright 120....
