Disappointing to see price rise from £30 to £40 on launch.

Not only do they cut the Single player offline mode then have the balls to put the game price up as well. I thought £30 was ideal. I will have to give this one a miss.

As far as I'm aware the £30 was only for Kickstarters who backed the game 2 years ago - the order price through the store since then has always been higher to my knowledge.

    Re: Elite: Dangerous launched (videos)

Well I downloaded it last night, took a while! I'm not sure why they have a launcher for it, it's just a game! I guess it's to push you to the shop for a shiny new paint job. I'm not sure why it thinks my name is the first part of my email address, especially when it has my correct name in the ED store.

Maybe tonight I'll actually launch it and get flying

I suspect the main purpose is to deny you server access if there is a more recent version of the game out, thus forcing you to update and also keeping people from breaking their servers with conflicting versions.
Plus it will deliver notifications of the upgrades, list all the patch notes, inform you about new game features, new merchandise and DLC.

    What, the boxed edition upgrade?
I never really looked at it myself. What's different?

    Re: Elite: Dangerous launched (videos)

Ugh, not going well so far. First up another patch ("improvements based on feedback" - I thought we were out of beta now?), then when it's ready to go I'm getting XINPUT1_3.DLL not found error. This is a really fresh install of Windows 8, someone has seriously dropped the ball on this. By the time I'm going to be able to play my hour will be up and I'll have not even launched the game! Downloading seemingly historic DirectX updates from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...ion.aspx?id=35 so fingers crossed.

On the plus side my joystick lights up which I don't remember, Windows seemed to sort drivers out itself so hopefully no issues there.

Unfortunately, not really possible. The quickest turns are over the vertical axis and even those are not so fast. Maybe it'll become possible with a bigger suite of upgrades but currently it's (sadly) definitely not.

Agree. This title is dead to me now. Pity.

Do people not ever read what the developers write?
The lower price was the pre-order special offer and Offline play was never fully confirmed.

Depending on the mass of the ship you're flying - if you turn flight assist off and/or hit reverse while strafing down, then up, you can pull a pretty darn tight turn. That's how I usually defeat NPCs.
