Don't let your kids on Habbo Hotel!!

I let my eldest install Habbo Hotel as some of her friends were on there.

So I just went into her room as she was getting irate about something and she was being messaged by loads of people she had added as friends.

    The content of the messages?

    CAUTION SWEAR FILTER AVOIDANCE AHEAD:

"I wanna phuck you senseless", "Show me your body and I'll show you my cuck", "Show me your feet and I'll cam myself cumming"...

Now I apologise for the crudity of the language and the apparent swear filer avoidance, but that is what is being typed into chat windows in Habbo Hotel, avoiding their swear filters.

So now I've been through and killed all her friends other than the two we know are her real school friends.

And then I went through the report problem process which, after getting me to filling in problem notification report, directed me to a generic 'help' page that was bugger all use.

So I clicked 'next' to actually submit the issue to the Habbo staff and guess what? The site reported that my session had timed out and the hotel was closed for maintenance.

Of course, if I ever do get an answer from Habbo, it'll be that they have what they feel are enough safeguards in place to keep youngsters safe and ultimately the parent is responsible for monitoring their kids online activities.

I agree, parents are and should be responsible but from my experience, Habbo really couldn't give a toss when something does happen.

On a slightly unrelated note, I received a mail from Habbo three weeks ago saying someone by the name of Jamie had signed up citing my email address as the parental one... and despite me replying saying that their information was false, I've still yet to see any action.

So this is a message to all parents reading this. Remove your child's account from Habbo hotel and remove the software from your PC... it's the only way to keep your kids safe from perverts masquerading as minors.

And you think I'm mistaken in thinking these sick bastards aren't minors? Ok, how many 12 year olds do you know with a foot fetish?

Seriously, get your kids off Habbo.

WOW... What has this world come to? These are such scarey times for our kids. All of the gadgets that kids have access to only makes things worse.
    Thanks for the warnings!

Re: Don't let your kids on Habbo Hotel!!

As horrible and disgusting as this is, it's something that people have to deal with on the internet. No matter where you go online you will come into contact with a magnitude of sick freaks looking for their next fix on whatever obscure and unreal fetish they have. The internet and these people come as a package deal I'm afraid.
In my experience, it's completely pointless reporting these types of people. Getting their account banned will do nothing, they will keep making accounts on the same game/website or move on to something different. The best thing you can do is block anyone you don't know who tries to contact you.
Games that are directed towards the younger generation are always going to attract a load of disgusting online perverts. If I was you, I wouldn't let your daughters (rarely happens to guys, and I'd be surprised if a 13 year old boy didn't get excited when a girl asked to "phuck them senseless") on these types of games/websites. It's just a breeding ground for online predators really. Try some offline games if you must .

Re: Don't let your kids on Habbo Hotel!!

It's horrendous that something aimed towards kids is in the state you describe, when it's aimed towards kids it's something that should be under heavy monitoring to avoid all things like this, but evidently if it's something that is monitored, they obviously aren't doing a very good job of it - and they definitely need to improve their report system as well from the sounds of it.

EDIT: I only just noticed that this was posted over 7 months ago. Did you ever hear anything back about the report?

On a related note: move your kids' computers into the living room or somewhere not so private if you don't trust them online

Even worse, I didn't notice the 2008 part - looks like hankrae did a big thread resurrection then. In which case I'll now leave this thread alone for it to quietly fade away again.

I have a HABBo. Let me tell you something. You can pick which rooms to go into. there's plenty of things you can do without someone saying ****. trust me. i am very mature about this... If you dont like what someone is saying, IGNORE THEM. to help u ignore them, there is a button that says: 'IGNORE' lol. you cant hear what theyre saying after that, unless you click the 'LISTEN' button.

you can also just leave the room.

Re: Don't let your kids on Habbo Hotel!!

You know, the last two lines and your sweary name really spoiled the whole "I am very mature" thing. That said, true enough, but not all young people are that mature (I was similar when your age, which wasn't all that long ago really!) - otherwise there wouldn't be any paedo cases in the news.

Think of it like the right to vote, sure there are definitely people below 18 who should be able to out there, but the majority just aren't, and you have to base things off the majority even if it does suck. Though some sort of IQ test or something required for below the "recommended age" could be amusing, and let those who can deal with things responsibly watch what they want to, I remember playing Doom and enjoying it when I was about 6 years old.
