Corsair VS series PSUs

These operate only at 230V.

These seem to use some really rubbish capacitors and are based on a CWT platform lower end than the one used in the CX series:

It appears the VS 450W is essentially a rebadged version of this Chieftec:

Not a rebadged chieftech as that's just a unit from CWT which chieftec stick a lable on, looks like corsair asked cwt to paint the casing black before putting the pcb in.

I was massively dubious about these, the CX series isn't great and now they bring out a cheaper VS series and have not sent out any review samples, not good signs.

It needs to be bumped up after a year and I added some new information.

One of the systems Hexus just reviewed used the VS series PSUs.

They are horrendously built. Jun Fu,Aishi and Fuhjyyu are the sort of crap you find in £10 PSUs and I am shocked that in the review they have not realised this.

Some PC builders are using these now(including Scan) since noobs assume Corsair equals good,and Corsair knows this and is starting to just cost cut on everything now.

I bet if the Chieftec was used instead,review sites would be all over it,saying it was not a decent brand.

People need to be aware of this,especially since people like PCWorld and Maplins are also starting to sell them,and they are displacing the CX series and XFX PRO series from the shelves(both are far better).

When I last went into PC World, the VS was the only unit they had available. They do seem to be appearing all over the place.

Noobs will buy them thinking they will get Corsair "quality" and its just pathetic that this FSP for under £20 uses better quality capacitors:

The CCL Computers systems was running a Core i5 and an HD7850 off a VS 450W,and one of the Scan systems is running an FX8350 and a R9 270X off a VS 550W.

Scan uses this VS 550W in a £940 build:

It uses an overclocked HD4670 and a GTX770.

Cost cutting in a system nearly costing £1000.

It seems the CX series has been displaced by the VS series even in £500 to £1000 builds.

Ultimately though, it's a clever strategy from Corsair. Where Apple came in at the high-end, became associated with quality, and stuck there, Corsair have now stretched right to the bottom of the market and are stealing market share all over the place.

The problem is, if these PSUs really are so unreliable, then they could quickly lose their reputation as a quality manufacturer. It's real tightrope they're walking.

Its more the case what happens after 2 to 3 years,which is the main issue here,ie,outside the warranty period. Another issue is Corsair RMA is in Holland too.

We can see what happened to XFX graphics cards once they started dicking around too.
