Brand new GTX 280 appears rather unwell :(

Got round to putting it in the machine today along with a spanking new BFG 800W (ES) PSU and here's the result:

    leading to..

    ..and finally..

    So that's bad, right?

I guess there's little I can do but RMA it to scan?

I connected the 8-pin PCIE and 6PIN PCIE (seperate rails). BTW did you guys know that leadtek supply a 2xPCIE (6 pin) to 1xPCIE (8 pin) and nVidia state this is dangerous to use on there website (luckily I didn't need it)?

Dam that looks bad. Is it a compatability issue? or just a dodgy card.

Re: Brand new GTX 280 appears rather unwell :(

My 7900GTX started life like that. Died the next day..

It can sometimes happen when it's not getting enough power but I'm this is not the case here and it usually looks a damn sight worse when power is the issue.

I don’t want to put the dampeners on things, but my 7800GTX just died like that a few weeks back...

Re: Brand new GTX 280 appears rather unwell :(

Think it must be a dodgy card - the system is fine with the 8800GTX in (as usual) and the new PSU (and the fact the new PSU works with the 8800) rules out power as an issue (especially given how hefty the rails are versus requirements - it's sli certified).

Faulty card for sure, I've had a few differnt graphics cards which have had the same problem on arrival, all RMA'ed and replaced.

I just received a BFG 280 OC on friday and mine overheats to 114'c within about 30 secs. On top of that it was a used card with scratches on the back. If you go BFG I would check your card very carefully.

Re: Brand new GTX 280 appears rather unwell :(

Well the good news is Scan have sent me an RMA nice and quickly and it's getting picked up on tuesday (bloody hell that's fast work scan dudes!). I'll let you know how it goes but it's rather nice having the retailer arrange collection

Fingers crossed card 2 is ok!

All this has got me thinking of doing a full rebuild - new bits:

Antec 1200 case (my case is a work of art but it's just a bit too small for me now)
New CPU waterblock - my asetek one is a PITA (3 pipes instead of 2) and i'm got a pipe leak (held in check right now by duct tape)
Thermochill 120.3PA radiator (seems to be the best one going and it's a jump from my twin rad) I hoping to mount this on the case (externally) with some cunning
