Hello all.

Thanks

Seagate ST3500320AS 500GB Hard Drive SATA II 7200rpm *32MB Cache* £42.99 inc vat
Generally, Scans pricing is based on their buy price plus a markup. This markup changes from product to product as far as I can gather.
Their pricing is also real time.
There was another thread I was reading today about Scans pricing, I'll go find it..... here it is: http://forums.hexus.net/scan-care-he...e-one-day.html
So here is a scenario as to why Scan are more expensive: As Scan have higher volumes to this other store, the product they bought at a price that would have been competitive with them has been sold before their competitor. Once the other store runs out of stock and has to buy more, their price will also go up to reflect this.
I'm not saying this is the reason, just one possible explanation.
Oh, another thread that might be of interest is this one: http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-channe...gy-prices.html
Another option is to send an email to themanwhocan@scan.co.uk to see if they can do something for a today only offer. No guarantees though.
Yes I know there are many factors that determine the price, but that was not the point.
Customers only care the best price on the day of purchase, and who can give them best value. By price matching they maybe not be making profit but in the long run they are bringing in new customers from competitors.
Anyways I'll send em an email and see if anything appears on today only.
It really frustrates me to see the same topics on this forum go round and round. No Scan do not price match. They have never, and probably will never. I don't know of any etailers who do. To be honest, what Curry's do or not do really doesnt concern me or Scan, they cater to computer enthuasts who will never buy from Curry's. Curry's business acumen is so outstanding that PCWorld are closing 1/3rd of their stores I think.
So its simple, buy from Scan or don't. Sure, you can get the odd item on overclockers for cheaper. And when you have to threaten to take them to court like my parents did to get your money back for faulty goods, then at least you can sit pretty and feel good about that £41.
If you are so frustrated to see a topic maybe you shouldn't read, and no one forcing you to reply to give answer thats already been answered.
You know what really frustrating a smart mouth answer from someone who didn't understand, did I mention Overclokers? And the Currys only came as a example, there are many other that i could have used.
Also you speak on behalf of scan too? Do you work for them or something? They don't just carter for computer enthusiast but anyone who wants to buy anything of interest.
You've got a wrong end of a stick there, who cares if it concerns you or not it concerned me so I asked here.

and their just the ones with 'Price Match' in the title
but as has been said:
SCAN do NOT price match as their prices are done in real time based on the distie's selling prices.. in times when prices fall, this means that SCAN's prices fall instantly, but conversely when prices increase, the also increase instantly, i cannot think of many places that will price match (any places that stock proper tech ), and i don't think it would be in SCAN's best interest to start.
Other places may be cheaper as they are basing it on old buying prices (see funky's dollar-pound link), because SCAN is real-time, unfortunatly, they will be one of the first tech-shops to be affected by price hikes...
and if i'm wrong then i'm sure a SCAN guy will put me straight
but if you are goingto order something then you need to order it ASAP, as prices are going to start increasing due to weak currency.
don't do what i'm doing and wait for tech prices to fall if you need something... i need a GFX card but i've been waiting, for prices to come down a little, and just hit a pricejump of £30

@Funkstar I'd got it the first time you replied. Obviously employing two people is better than one but that costs. and thats what I was hinting at too, the support and quality of service matters. why else anyone would want a price match. they might as well shop on the first place.
But at the same time I think little anti competitiveness is also going on and blaming third party for price movements is not right. If someone else can determent price movement for scan they can do it for others too and that is not good for Joe consumer.
But I disagree, offering such a service will run them out of business, but thats my opinion.
Adder, scan are a company, they are here to make profit, otherwise they wouldn't exist.
As far as I am aware they have tight margins as it is and price matching or beating isn't an option, why can't you just accept that SCAN won't/ can't offer price matching as you have already been told countless times.
Yes I got it, they wont offer it they haven't offered and there is nothing I or anyone can do about no matter how many times we ask it.
But please don't think for us too.
This is all am saying on the matter. we have to agree to disagree on some things. But please try to understand where am coming from too.

Hi adder,
Well, your question has been answered, (and also asked many times before and answered then too).
I'm sensing more than a hint of impatience, terseness, irritability or whatever in your responses to the replies you've been given.
HEXUS is a friendly place, we all get on here, so please don't go off on one when other members give you info that conflicts with your view on how the world should work.
Soon as you get a handle on that, I'm sure you'll have a happy stay and find this to be the most helpful place on the web other than the Mrs. Miggins 'Build your own pie' selector at www.migginspies.com.
Cheers,
Nick
