Re: Tracking SSD costs Super Talent also have a ssd with the Indilinx controller. It has the same performance as the Vertex, but the UltraDrive ME is custom. http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid...e=expert&pid=1 http://www.supertalent.com/products/...ype=UltraDrive Im going to HK soon and was checking prices of SSDs: http://www.jumbo-computer.com/pricelist.asp Seems like a decent price cut. ![]() Might get a 60Gb or even 120Gb if budget allows

Re: Tracking SSD costs Hmm, didn't OCZ announce the agility series as a slightly lower performance cheaper nand flash drive still with decent cache/controller and said it would bring near vertex performance but for cheaper? Seen the 30gb agility at around £110-130 pre-order and £220 for the 60gb, on microdirect they are actually more expensive than their vertex cousins. The other thing is supposedly the specs are around 200/160 read write on the vertex, and 230/135 on the agility, though I think those vertex are the initial speeds and you can get higher now on read at least. Oh well, maybe its just a stock thing and in a month they'll be 10-20% cheaper otherwise they are seemingly selling almost the same drives with same specs under different names for the same price? Just incase anyone knows, any idea's if anywhere has stock of those 2.5-3.5" ssd convertors that Novatech do, the 2 drives in one 3.5" bay ones as I can't spot them in stock anywhere else.

Re: Tracking SSD costs G.Skill Falcon (price all taken from MemoryC unless otherwise stated): 60GB: £140.88 (-£26.73) 120GB: £270.24 (Novatech) (-£12.76) 250GB: £ 519.23 (-£3) Still at over £2/GB, I still think we won't see £1/GB before sometime next year. I may start tracking the new Intel from next month. The price per GB on pre-order at Scan is roughly the same as the 60/120GB Falcon.

Re: Tracking SSD costs I suspect all ssd's will now have to drop in price because of the new intel. fingers crossed anyway... The new crucial drive might be one to watch out for as well, but I've not yet been able to find out which controller it's using. Anybody know?

Re: Tracking SSD costs 6 weeks since the last update. G.Skill Falcon (price all taken from MemoryC): 60GB: £153.69 (+£12.81) 120GB: £262.58 (-£7.66) 250GB: £456.58 (-£62.65) Major drop for the 250GB, we are finally seeing something that costs less than £2/GB. But prices for other capacity hasn't budged much (in the right direction that is). Scan has the 80GB Intel for £171.12 (OEM) and the 160GB for £338.28 on pre-order. Better buy than the 60/120GB IMHO.

Re: Tracking SSD costs I am weary. I had a quick Google and that drive uses the infamous JMicron controller. It's quite expensive per GB too - have you heard any reliable site suggesting that it's a good buy?

Re: Tracking SSD costs I posted because you didn't list any 32GB drives in your latest summary. Is this thread for SSD drive prices (i.e. find cheapest), or only for "selected recommended SSD drives" ? Ebuyer are selling the Crucial X32 for £99, which is a good drive - but not as cheap obviously.

Re: Tracking SSD costs Still G.Skill Falcon from MemoryC: 64GB £160.63 (+6.94) 128GB £307.43 (+44.85) 256GB £473.37 (+16.79) Intel SSD drive are still the same price from Scan. Overall, not a good time to buy SSD compared to last month at least. @mikerr: Since I have limited time, I am only tracking the price of the drives that interest me. If you are interested in other drive, then feel free to post them. However, if a particular drive suffers that infamous JMicron stutter, then I think it would be best to point that out so people knows.

Re: Tracking SSD costs Ok I was think of getting another SSD for a new laptop and looking at prices today, WTF They have like shot up from summer........... Intel X25-M G2 80GB at launch was like £130 if I remember correctly, now at +£170 OCZ Vertex/G Skill Falcon 64GB were like £140 during summer, Scan have the OCZ at £207. Bad time to get a SSD tbh. Who the hell said SSD prices were falling. If I sold my OCZ I bought for £130, I would be making a solid £50 profit. =/

Re: Tracking SSD costs Yeah, I have always disputed people who say that SSD will replace mechanical drive in '2-3 years' (claims I've heard over a year ago). I am sure price will fall, but going by the last 6 months since I started this thread, it'll take a while before they are really viable for me. And as for replacing mechanical drives, not in a long long time. Having said that, I don't recall that the Intel G2 has ever costed as little as £130. Well, from other e-tailers or as a promotion for a very short period, but the pre-order from Scan was just over £170 too going by my post at the start of September.
