there are definitely a range of hosts there to suit businesses and personal use, that is reflected in the price of the hosting packages, some web sites also look more proffessional than others.

Some of the hosting sites i'd not touch with a barge pole just based on the web site. But thats why its recommended by hexus members, so that its personal experience not just ones that are out there.

2 good ones on the list - 34sp i've used in the past with no problems .... 3dpixelnet - better, and no hassels to-date!

I know that it might be a lot of work, but do you fancy going through the list again and showing the number of recommendations (or warnings!) for each company? That way, it is slightly easier to gauge which companies are reliable.

I thought of that Mike and decided against it i'm afraid, While you might get some benefit from it i decided against a list that would pro-actively drive sales to any one particular web host.

All of these have been recommended by hexus members so its a good list. If you just take a quick tour round the ones that meet your hosting type requirements its going to be fairly easy for you to pick.

Okey doke - I suppose that's fairly sane reasoning

Definately my recommendation, I've been using them for years for both professional and personal sites.

Hi there, could you add a final column with Phone No. provided: Yes / No ? - I'm having serious problems contacting one of my hosts as they only have email...

An indication of service orientation/suitability might be nice as well, perhaps 3 categories, personal, business or enterprise.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Perhaps QiQ should be added to the list - when I was looking for hosting for myself they were the most helpful, and pretty reasonable too (ie cheaper than 34sp)

^ i'm about to buy hosting with them, their customer support is pretty good (emailed them a query and they replied within 24hrs)

Plus it's about £50 startup for a years worth of hosting + 2 years domain reg. Then something like 30-35 after, which isn't too bad imo considering what they're offering.
