Dear Sir,
Thanks for your mail.
Current N299 media server having some license issue from PS3, thus we afraid N299 would incompatible with PS3 in short time, but we will keeping update to support PS3 as possible, and N299 should compatible with most of DLNA media player, we could try on CyberLink_SoftDMA on PC to verify function, following link for your reference:
Best regards!
Thecus Support Team
I wonder if Twonky can get arround the DLNA or is that some how embedded on the N299 Hardware.
If so, Email thcus back and see if the developers over at O N B E A T can port twonky over for you guys like they do the other N##### devices...
If not you can always get a decent deal for your N299's by selling them on eBay and upgrade to the N2100 which streams for sure to X360, PS3, Dlink, Linksys, and many other media players.

I think N299 is a dead model. Who can breath the life to it?
Well, you have to laugh - just the reading the last few posts and I have to agree, I have listed my N299 on eBay. It's no good to me without PS3 functionality. Don't think I'll be looking at the N#### whatever though, steering clear of Thecus altogether I think...
Please resolve this issue with licensing. I like to be able to stream avi and MP3 files to my PS3. At the moment I am on N299 firmware 1.00.24. Is there a work around to get round this problem?
I have also found this information from the " ushare . geexbox . org " Web site for information for the GeeXboX uShare UPnP A/V Media Server GeeXboX uShare UPnP A/V Media Server ,
Latest release of uShare is 1.1a.
ChangeLog:
* Support for XboX 360 dashboard Fall Update (.avi and .divx now are supported)
* DLNA support is not enabled by default, as not mandatory.
* Some configure script fixes and better support for cross-compilation.
* Fixed network interface discovery on MacOSX.
* Much more complete DLNA support through external libdlna.
* Telnet Control interface.
* Support for FLAC and HDMOV files.
* FreeBSD 64bit and MacOSX build fix.
* Newly written configure script.
Compile uShare by running configure and then make. This should produce an executable ushare in the src subdirectory, which can be used right away. No extra files need to be installed.
Example :
CFLAGS="-Os" ./configure --prefix=/usr
make
If you want to enable DLNA support, run:
./configure --enable-dlna
This seems to suggest that the problem of ushare and the Sony PS3 is not a licensing problem but the DLNA should be enable during the program compile. Therefore could Yvon from Thecus consider if this could be put into the firmware for the N299 please. If this were to be true and successful, many PS3 owners will be most happy as there will be no more DLNA protocol error for the avi and mp3 which are shown as unsupported formats.

Guys anyone had any joy on the PS3 working with the N299???
Paddy
It looks as if Thecus are ignoring all requests for N299 requirements (spindown, PS3 support). As far as I am concerned it was £100 wasted, I have since moved to a NSA220 which supports all these functions.
