Unhappy KN8-SLI: USB 2.0 device recognized as USB 1.1

    Hi everyone:

I have a KN8-SLI which I've been thoroughly enjoying for the last while.
My main Windows hard drive died suddenly and I had to get a new one, and
    reinstall Windows XP Pro SP2.

I installed using the exact same Windows XP SP2 CD as I had used before.
While I was at it, I figured I'd install the most up-to-date hotfixes, so I
reviewed and installed all the ones I thought were appropriate and critical for
    my machine.

With my previous Windows installation, my Corsair Flash Voyager 512MB USB
flash drive was recognized as a USB 2.0 device by the connector wired to the
USB header on the motherboard. Now, it is only recognized as a USB 1.1
device, with that nasty error message popping up telling me the drive could
run faster if I plugged it into a USB 2.0 device. I know this is not an issue
with the Corsair, as I've tried in several other machines, and it is consistently
recognized as a USB 2.0 device.

I did some Googling, and apparently this problem is fairly common, with many
    types of USB devices.

Since I haven't changed any BIOS settings, and the only hardware I've added
is an extra SCSI drive (NOTE: my SCSI card was previously installed and had
had a SCSI drive attached before), I'm deducing that the problem lies either
    in:

    1. One of Windows' hotfixes (God knows which one)
    2. The KN8-SLI (v. 1.x) board itself
    3. The version of chipset drivers being used.

RE: the latter, I've tried using the same version of Nvidia chipset I used
previously, but that made no difference.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, do you know any possible solutions?

Oh, and from now on, I vow to keep a list of exactly which Windows hotfixes
    I have installed

    Thanks in advance.

    Scrandman:

I made another answer in the other forum. (Sorry, I didn't know you folks frequented both forums-I didn't consider it double-posting).

I'm more concerned now. When I boot the machine, the hardware enumeration screen after POST lists the Corsair USB flash drive as:

"Corsair Flash Voyager Full speed device version 1.x"

Moreover, if I boot Knoppix 5.01, it lists the Corsair device under Standard
UCHI USB hub, not under EHCI hub. Does this not indicate a hardware problem with the KN8-SLI?

Now I'm worried the mobo might be faulty.

    Suggestions

    Philippe

    Might fix it...[/QUOTE]

It's not double posting - I'm just too lazy to answer twice

I answered over at abit usa this time. If the hotfix doesn't work I'm out of ideas, other than checking which chipset drivers your running (latest version is 6.86)

Heh. I'd hardly call that lazy Scandman. After all, you're helping out a heck of
a lot of people both here and on the US site.

I think I finally figured it out. After literally 2 more hours of Googling, I had a hunch:
Maybe my case was incompatible. Sure enough, there are a pile of reports
out there of people with an Antec SX1040BII who can't get their front ports
to work. If that is indeed my problem, it's because the wiring to the front
ports is not shielded enough to support USB 2.0

The answer? Either get another front port setup, or call Antec, as they may
be willing to send you a replacement circuit board/wiring set
that you can install in the case that will support USB 2.0 .

It figures, after all these high-tech, sophisticated possibilities, it seems to come
    down to old wiring.

I'll contact Antec in the morning and see if I can get them to send me out a
    new front USB/wiring assembly.

Heh - perhaps he googled his own thread after 2 hours of trying

Anyway, glad you've got it fixed...

    Hardy har har.

No, actually nobody suggested it to me. I thought of it myself.'
The important thing is, I called Antec, and their customer service was as
good as always-after describing the problem, the rep. immediately ordered
a new USB front port PCB and tail be sent out. Free of charge, of course.

    Thanks again all.

Yes, it is my thread. But I hadn't checked back at that thread before I came
    to my own conclusion.
