Hi everyone:
I have a KN8-SLI which I've been thoroughly enjoying for the last while.
My main Windows hard drive died suddenly and I had to get a new one, and
reinstall Windows XP Pro SP2.
I installed using the exact same Windows XP SP2 CD as I had used before.
While I was at it, I figured I'd install the most up-to-date hotfixes, so I
reviewed and installed all the ones I thought were appropriate and critical for
my machine.
With my previous Windows installation, my Corsair Flash Voyager 512MB USB
flash drive was recognized as a USB 2.0 device by the connector wired to the
USB header on the motherboard. Now, it is only recognized as a USB 1.1
device, with that nasty error message popping up telling me the drive could
run faster if I plugged it into a USB 2.0 device. I know this is not an issue
with the Corsair, as I've tried in several other machines, and it is consistently
recognized as a USB 2.0 device.
I did some Googling, and apparently this problem is fairly common, with many
types of USB devices.
Since I haven't changed any BIOS settings, and the only hardware I've added
is an extra SCSI drive (NOTE: my SCSI card was previously installed and had
had a SCSI drive attached before), I'm deducing that the problem lies either
in:
1. One of Windows' hotfixes (God knows which one)
2. The KN8-SLI (v. 1.x) board itself
3. The version of chipset drivers being used.
RE: the latter, I've tried using the same version of Nvidia chipset I used
previously, but that made no difference.
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, do you know any possible solutions?
Oh, and from now on, I vow to keep a list of exactly which Windows hotfixes
I have installed
Thanks in advance.
