Unhappy AN8 Ultra and X2 problems under Vista

AN8 Ultra board, updated to Bios 20 and 100% stable with my old Athlon64 3500+ in vista. I have installed a new cpu, an X2 3800+ and am having stability issues now. Vista has bluescreened several times since, seemingly at random, running stable for 3 days and then sudden BSOD, i do not think it is a temperature problem, I have a good HSF on there with AS5 and it did not crash out while running benchmarks or games. I am thinking it has to be either a: a faulty CPU or b: some incompatibility problem with the motherboard and/or the drivers for vista. Any suggestions would be very gratefully received.

    The error it generates is

    Windows

Having done a little googling, I find that BCCode 124 is a hardware issue, but cant find anything more specific than that.

    TIA for any help

1st when you switched CPU did you change the CPU driver & HAL (not sure about Vista but you should on XP)?

there are known cases of AN8 series (excl. AN8 32X) having problems with X2s & USB2.0 enabled so it's worth checking that (although if it is that you are the 1st case that I've heard on Vista - indeed others have said that moving to Vista cured it for them).
In the BIOS try putting the board onto USB1.1 & see if it clears the problem or if you still have it & report back results.

I didnt change anything in Vista when i changed the CPU, assumed I didnt need to. Vista shows the dual core and task manager has the split window ok. I think I have a pci USB 2 card around somewhere, will stick that in and disable USB in BIOS to see if that cures it. One thing about it is that it happens so randomly, sometimes it will crash out twice in the space of 3 hours, others it can go for 3 days and not crash, thats why i dont think (hope!) it is not a faulty CPU, surely it would bomb out a lot more regularly, especially if it was under stress?
Will post progress with the USB, thanks for the suggestion

ok, following advice I downgraded USB on motherboard to 1.1, after that had run stably for 2 days, I then got a PCI USB2.0 card and put it in, and just disabled USB onboard completely. All my USB stuff is now plugged into the card and Vista has been nice and stable for 3 days now, so fingers crossed it stays that way

    Jeez.
It's been seen on other non-abit nF4s too nor does it affect all AN8s.
There's obviously some specific config. that triggers it.

Im not saying its just abit, but how can mobo makers allow a glitch like that to exist?
    Just too weird.

I think that the problem is possibly in replicating it so that they can work out what's going on.
