    Abit IN9 and APIC

    Help........

    I am having major headaches.........

I am building a new system for a customer with includes ... Abit IN9 32x MAX board, Intel QX6700 Quad 2.66GHz processor, OCZ 4GB 800MHz memory, WD Raptor 150GB etc

I have read that the 4gb will not recognise under Windows XP Pro 32bit due to the 32 bit system, I have purchased Windows Xp 64 bit but cannot install as it says I do not have APIC enabled... Help... How do I get the APIC enabled or get the 4gb working properly...

    Regards

    Kevin

Just as a follow on from this, I have received a reply form ABIT technical support as follows....

"APIC is enable at all time on the hardware, what kind of memory you have?"

I have reset the memory to default settings not what OCZ advised on the label and all works.... I am currently installing Windows XP x64 edition. If there are any issues I will post back here...

Not sure on the XP, but I just had some issues with Vista 64 bit. This still will not recognise > 3 gig as delivered. You must do the install with < 3 Gig and then patch. After the patch, reinstall the ram. This took me a while to find the correct patch, but I searced the microsoft site for the code (didn't show all the time) on my BSOD.
I used to have something here.

APIC is enabled in bios, I would have a look to check to see if it hasnt been disabled by accident/design.

Not sure about Abit's comment on the memory.

    Hi Everyone

Just a quick note on the problem. It turned out that I had 3 faulty OCZ chips out of eight and this was why I was having so many problems. After replacing the memory under warranty they worked better than I could imagine.

    QUAD CORE...... PERFECT.....
