    AB9 QuadGT overclock

Hi, i tried to overclock my Intel E6400 but without succces: I have BIOS release 13 and I couldn't go above 290 FSB. I read many articles and there is written that it should run at 3.2GHz without the problem.
I am having Forttron Epsilon 700w, abit quad GT, intel core 2 duo e6400, GEIL 2x1 Gb RAM ( I foud a data, which descreibes 4-4-4-12 for running at 800 MHz), nVidia 8800 GTS 320Mb, SATA HDD.
Every time I tried to overclock i could hear 4 sec. beep and nothing hapends. Any suggestion?
    Thanks in advance, bye!!!

Right in advance, have you read this guide as its based on the quad gt as well read that then read my next bit.

Now have you disabled everything in like so.

Thhen try a small overclock I:E, go for 300x8 and make sure the ram is running at 1:1 and that you have manually put the timings in save and exit then it should boot into windows if so report back if not report back.

Ou of interest what cpu cooler are you using.

It works thanks to you. I didn't disale those CPU features. Here are results:

    Dafault Now

I left here everithin by default. I read that my GEIL RAM works @800 MHZ with these setteings 4-4-4-4-12. So could you, please, wright, where to put which value.

    CAS time ?
    Ras to Cas time ?
    Prechange time ?
    Command Rate ?
    Refresh Cycle time ?
PCI-E v1.0a I suppose it is good this way
    PEG force X1 Disabled
    Innit Display First PCI slot

If you have any suggestions they would be helpful.

When I run @ 2.13 MHz CPU temp by uGuru is 43 C

@3.4 MHz 52 C without load, than I run 3DMark06, I had 62 C with load while testing Graphic, and 67 C while testing CPU. Are those temps acceptable?
CPU Fan is from box of Intel Core 2 Duo proccesor.
    Once more, thanks, bye!!!

Those temps are way too high especially as uguru tends to report temps as 15 degrees less than what they actually are. Download a program called coretemp and tell us what that says the temps are. also what cpu cooler are you using? sounds like your using the stock intel. if you are i suggest a new cooler, something cheap like an arctic freezer 7 pro would do the job nicely.

Hi, I bought artic freezer and the temperatures are lower now. uGuru says 39C @ 3.4 GHz :-)
So, my current configurations is like before and I just changed the values in RAM to 4-4-4-4-12.
Only thing that bothers me is this 1:1. I tried to set on 4:5 (667 MHz) but than I got beep. My PC now works at 3.4 GHz but RAM speed is low. Should I incease more voltage or it just can not work faster. I mean, I don't know what is more imporant for PC DRAM or CPU speed. Will my PC work slower?
    Thanks!!!

Sorry i just realised your timing are actually 4-4-4-12 so your timings should be

    CAS time 4
    Ras to Cas time 4
    Prechange time 4
    Command Rate 2T
    Refresh Cycle time 12

leave everything else on auto and you should be all good. you should run the ram on the voltage on the sticker on the ram sticks. ram speed does help alot but it isnt as important as core speed i believe. you should be able to run that ram @ around 850Mhz if not higher on those timings. if you still have problems slacken the timings to 5-5-5-15.

I opend CPU-Z and there is written these information for RAM.

    Frequency 200MHz 266 400
    CAS 3.0 4.0 5.0
    RAS 3 4 5
    RAS Prech 3 4 5
    Tras 9 12 18
    Trc 12 16 23

Do these data help? Shold I use 5-5-5-23?

you should be able to run that ram @ around 850Mhz if not higher on those timings

does it mean that it runs @800Mhz alltought 1:1 is set?

    Thanks, you've been great support!

Use the timings under 266Mhz as GEIL make their spd timings very slack for compatibility reasons. By 800Mhz i mean (400fsb) as its ddr2. so @ your fsb (425) your running your ram at 850Mhz at 1:1. my Geil was running at 925 Mhz 4-4-4-12. hope that makes sense.

Your RAM speed isn't low - at 425 fsb with 1:1 it's running at DDR2 850 (it's polled twice hence dual data rate).

Last question, I hope. What impacts on CPU temp FSB or voltage? Is it the same to have 350 or 420 FSB at the same voltage? I bought freezer pro 7, temp is 49C without load @2.13Ghz, 58 (with 99.7% load) and with higer voltage (1.3625) 52 C without load, 60 C with 99.7% load (OCCT). I run OCCT for 5 hours @ 3.4 GHz and it says "the system is stable". Temps are from Core Temp 0.95. Is it to high, are those temps normal? br!!

Voltage has the most effect on temps in my experience you want to keep load temps sub 65 C definately but is best to have them around 55C to give you some headroom if/when summer comes. it depends on your chip as to how much voltage it needs. for example my e6600 can do 3GHz undervolted and 3.15 on stock volts. but to get around 3.4-3.6 i need to put the voltage up to 1.4+. my adivice see if you can drop your vcore a bit whilst keeping your system stable to keep the temps down.

Hi, I bought Artic Freezer 7, arctic silver 5 paste and case cooler Glacialtech Silent Blade. It runs now @3.2 GHz 1:1 4-4-4-12 and voltage is increased from default 1.25 to 1.3. Temps are now 43 C idle and 55 while running OTTC (CPU load 99.7% ). Those coolers did what thay had to do. My doubt is only if this voltage is enough for the stability. For how long sholud I run OCCT to be sure that is stable or should I use some other stability software? Anyway, guys you were really great support, thanks once more!!!

The best test for stability is just to use your pc as you normally would, imo. Check it wont crash playing your fave game, doing a backup, converting music files etc.

    Re: AB9 QuadGT overclock

    Hi all,

I have a new problem with my motherboard. As I press power button I can see on the counter display on the motherboard following 99->90 and than it stops. There is even no motherboard logo displayed on the monitor so I can not enter the BIOS nor anything else. After few hours I found a workaround how to solve it. I press Restart button which sets the counter to FF and if I hold Power button for 5 secnods, shot down and than start the PC it goes 99->90->C1 and further on and the PC works than.
If I restart or shot down the PC than I have to do the above described porcedure once more.

Do you know what does the BIOS do in that second cycle, so I could fix it?

    Thanks
