    AB9 QuadGT Chipset Update

The latest chipset drivers on the abit web site are 8.3.0.1011 so I decided it might be a good idea to update from the currently installed 8.1.1.1010.

However on running the installer it stated that the target chipset is Q33/G33/G31/P35 rather than the usual Q963/Q965/P965/G965/…. list. I aborted the installation and am seeking to check that this is the correct chipset driver update for the QuadGT before proceeding?

OK - failing any response from knowlegable peeps - or abit reps, I researched further. The Intel download site actually has 8.3.0.1013 as the latest version and in their full readme list P965 among the supported chipsets.

Gigabyte (never had one) actually provide 8.3.0.1013 as the latest chipset download for their P965 boards (so they are clearly also on the support ball).

ASUS predictably still well out of data and list 8.2.0.1010.

Anyway I downloaded 8.3.0.1013 from Intel and installed them. System still works.

Smiles, never any risk of the alternative! That "target chipset" telltale during the installer doesn't imply that the update is only for the stated chipsets, it still supports a slew of older ones.

However, a pertinent question would be whether the file you've just installed includes anything new for 965/ICH9. May well be that it doesn't, but even then, the only thing you've lost by installing it is the time taken.
    BH6, BX6 2.0, BE6, BE6-II 2.0, ST6-RAID, BE6-II 2.0 (again), BD7-RAID, BD7II-RAID, IC7-G, IC7 Max3, AB9 QuadGT, IX38 QuadGT. IX58... Oh, b*ll*cks. RIP Abit

I don't know if there are any updates or improvements for the 965/ICH8R - but I figured it was prudent to give my RAID the best environment possible and that the update (should) not be any worse with a good chance it is better!
