    PowerDVD HD and F-190HD

Okay, first post so please be gentle

I have just made a HTPC with this board.

Apart from not having a BIOS jumper on the motherboard to start with, everything is working.

I have purchased Constantine on HDDVD, and it worked fine on an "evaluation" copy of the software

On saturday, I got the MI box set, and ran into troubles. I updated powerDVD and my graphics drivers and it worked.

THIS PROVES POWERDVD CAN PLAY HDDVDS ON MY SYSTEM.

I have now purchased PowerDVD Ultra, but it is now telling me my system does not come up to spec (graphics card=unknown)
I know it works, but PowerDVD is not letting me in. Using a trial of anyDVDHD I can get constantine running, but not any of the more up-to-date HDDVDs.

    So there are numerous questions.
    1) Is Abit going to get PowerDVD to certify this motherboard? (Fatal1ty f-190HD) It's certainly NOT HD if I can't get my films running...
    2) Are there any 1250 drivers out there on the net? I can only get 1200 from the ati site
    3) Am I going to have to suck it in and buy a graphics card?
I SO don't want to do this as I know my system can eat HD for breakfast!!!! If I get a graphics card I know games will start getting installed!!!!!

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what I should do?

I know anyDVD gets around the HD protection, but (it seems) that I need something to get around stupid so called Powerdvd's!!!!!

Thank you for your time, MrReynolds.

ps, I was looking to put this in an ati thread, but didn't see an appropriate forum...

First of all it might help if told us what OS you using.
Secondly there are x1250 drivers listed on the ATI website for all microsoft os.

and thirdly the PowerDVD certified has nothing to do with abit. This would be an issue between ATi and PowerDVD.

Thank you for your reply. So much for being gentle!!

My os is XP Pro. Sorry for leaving that out...(although as you have commented, the drivers support ALL OSs)

the drivers on the site only go up to xpress 1200. Should I be downloading the radeon x1250 then? I was looking at xpress drivers becasue that's what's on the board (so I thought)

As for Abit support, there's no point calling a motherboard HD if it can't play HD material (lets face it there's only powerdvd and windvd at the moment) I would have thought it would have been better publicity to write "we'll see what we can do..." as opposed to your reply. (seems to me like you're washing your hands of this chipset). You have a graphics chip on board an abit product, so surely you should be in communication with ATI, saying they are letting you down. Saying it's not your problem isn't productive at all.

Has anyone else got any work around? Anyone running PowerDVD without a graphics card installed?

I am sorry if you don't like my reply. I would never write "we'll see what we can do" as this would be missleading.

The drivers you require are in fact the x1250.

As for the powerDVD issue I believe it to be a software issue as the board is motherboard is able to handle HD content.

Have your tried contacting cyberlink to see if they can resolve the issue.

I was just looking at the technical info for PowerDVD ultra and the ATI x1250 isn't mentioned I don't think this software will work on this onboard display.

I will run some tests now and let you know the results.

& yet in your first post you admitted that the board can in fact play HD DVDs so it's an OS/codec problem i.e. software & therefore not abit's problem per se.

There is the official European ATI Multimedia forum here but I don't think that ATi staff visit it very often ...

Thanks dude, im rather "precious" at the moment....!

Well I've downloaded the latest driver (think it's today). Still doesn't work....but. With the trial of anydvd it is working just as before.

So I guess a purchase of AnyDVD is in order!!!!

I'll certainly get onto cyberlink the next time I have troubles. Call me MrConspiracy, but I feel it's a ploy to get suckers into buying graphics cards for HTPCs, and unless you want it for gaming there is no point in having one.....

    Thanks again. MrR.

Buff, thanks for the link. I would have gone to ATI first, but I "thought" I didn't see a suitable forum. Thanks.
