IP35-Pro thinks the speakers are missing

    Hi,

I have just built an IP35-Pro rig and in general am very, very pleased with it. However, I am having a strange audio problem. About 30% of the time that I boot up I get no sound from the speakers. If I go into ‘Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound’ the dialogue box states that “Speakers – Realtek High Definition Audio – Not plugged in”. I am using Vista 64.
The speakers are most certainly plugged in and the ‘Realtek Digital Output’ display underneath is working and the bar display shows that audio is being processed by the computer.

Is the Speaker detection in hardware from the output jack socket or something to do with the driver? Can I make a registry change to fool the system into outputting audio through the jack socket?

(Sorry to those that lurk on the Abit US forum for this cross-post but I never got an answer to the detection method over there.)

    Cheers.

teh software detects the output through the driver i.e you cna basically connect your speakers in ANY slot. The software then displays a message saying are you sure you want to assign the speakers to this jack, etc

This is on windows xp, i havent tried this board on 64bit vista

However I have tried this board on xp32 xp64 and vista 32

Thanks gilgamesh, but do you know HOW the software detects it (jack socket switch, load)?

    Cheers

Software detects which jack is underload and asks what device you are plugging in.

Thanks for that. So it could still be a hardware or software problem. The fact that the problem is intermittent makes me think that it is more likely to be software orientated, hence I was wondering if I could hack a registry entry to fool the driver. I live in the South of France so an RMA is more trouble than it is worth.

    Cheers.

Re: IP35-Pro thinks the speakers are missing

I've noticed on abit boards I couldn't get the audio codec to automatically detect which was a shame, as before on my asus I had two jacks both assigned to green 2 channel output (for speakers and headphones - which means I only have to play with volumes on the speakers to decide what I'm using rather than fiddling behind the back).

Never worked out why, probably some obscure setting in the bios. It was set up identically in software / driver terms to the asus, so I have no idea really.

    strange
im using the onboard s/c on the ip35 pro, albiet the optical cable and I have no problems with my creative inspire 5700 speakers

I wonder if it could be a problem with the 64bit version vista drivers. Sean can you investigate this please?

    cheers

Re: IP35-Pro thinks the speakers are missing

Sorry for my late response (really busy here at the moment).

I tested IP35 Pro with vista 64 and tried many revisions of the realtek without any problems.

Which means either you have a hard fault or a vista fault.
