Hi, im new to the forum and would like to firstly say you all seem very imformative and knowledgeable people
After moving house i have a problem with my pc booting up.
Im pretty much a novice compared to some of you but i do have basic knowledge of pc's (i built the one im having problems with although it has been running fine until i moved house).
when trying to boot the pc i got nothing but a whining noise, when looking inside the pc, the display on the abit ag8 motherboard was showing 8.
i read on the internet about cold boot problems and held in the reset button which did make a difference.
switching on the pc i now get
2
0.0.
8.3.
8.7.
9.6.
9.e.
9.f.
followed by one long beep then 3 short beeps.
heres what i have done.
cleared the cmos using the battery (tried jumpers also).
tried booting up using basic hardware (ram and graphics card)
reseated cpu and fan
tried to remove as much dust as possible.
can anyone shed any light on this as im at my wits end!
ps i did find this, can anyone shed anymore light on how to do this? is it advisable?
Remove the extra 4pins on the main ATX connector it booted fine and POST'd.
Note that I'm not talking about the 12v connector (yellow and black), im talking about the extra 4 pins u snap in to the main connector, I think its called ATX-E and wire colours are red, orange, yellow & black.
thanks in advance!
