    Fatal1ty F-I90HD - On Board Graphics problems

Hope there is someone on here who can point me in the right direction.

PC setup is as specified on the left. Built this PC on Saturday,

Updated bios from 1.2 to 1.6 to cater for processor, reset cmos and set bios to optimized setings all o.k.

Installed windows XP pro (32 bit)

The problem comes when I try to install the ati catalyst drivers. After reboot the screen goes into 1080 mode OK but then either freezes or keeps rebooting itself.

Im following the intructions in the manual and installing the southbridge driver followed by dotnet then the catalyst display drivers.

If I do not install any of these drivers the Pc works fine (i.e. I get no crashes or reboots).

Ive tried installing the latest drivers from the abit website and also from the ati website (after a fresh xp install each time) but still get the same issue.

Could this be a faulty motherboard?

Im a bit loath to rma this board as the first one I received (from overclockers) arrived damaged with the heatsink on the graphics cpu only secured by one post and swinging freely in the box.

If I cant find a solution then as the rest of the board appears Ok I may just buy a graphics card and use that (although kind of defeats the object of buying the abit board as it has hdmi output)

    any suggestions anyone?

Re: Fatal1ty F-I90HD - On Board Graphics problems

    I'm pretty sure that I used that version, I downloaded from the abit latest drivers page for my mobo, but when I get in from work tommorow I'll do the following;

    1. Reinstall windows xp pro (32 bit)

    2. Install .net from your link.

    3. Install Realtek 8111B Gigabit Lan Driver so I can connect to the net.

    4. Run windows update to get any latest updates (including any for .net) - I previously havent done this so this may be the cause of my problem.

    5. Install southbridge driver (latest from abit drivers website)

    6. Installl ati catalyst drivers (latest from abit drivers website)

I'll let you know how I get on and many thanks for responding.

Download and install all drivers from the ATI website as these are newer than the ones on the abit site.

Re: Fatal1ty F-I90HD - On Board Graphics problems

Personally, I'd put on the chipset drivers before I do any windows updates. I also had a weird issue with the onboard sound on that board not working under Windows XP SP2, but since my mate was happy to leave the system at SP1, never got a chance to test my idea of a fix (disabling the sound before installing SP2)

Re: Fatal1ty F-I90HD - On Board Graphics problems

Well, still not working here so it looks like Im going to buy a graphics card.

I tried the following 3 attempts

    1. Reinstalled fresh copy of windows xp pro (32 bit)
    2. Installed Realtek 8111B Gigabit Lan Driver from abit website (v5.662.205.2007 (16/3/2007)
    3. Installed .net 2.0 from microsoft website.
    4. Run windows update to get all latest updates.
    5. Installed southbridge drivers from ati website (Version 7.10 - Oct 11 2007)
    6. Installed ati catalyst vga driver from ati website (Version 7.10 - Oct 11 2007)

RESULT : system initially hung on boot screen . Left it for 5 mins then powered off and back on. Booted OK but then hangs after about 2-3 minutes use.

    Then resinstalled windows again and tried the following;

    1 to 3 as above

    4. Installed Realtek Audio Driver (vers 5.10.0.5391 26/3/2007)
    5. Installed HDMI Audio
    6. Updated SM bus driver from abit driver disk (didnt notice this was missing before and couldnt find better driver on web) (vers 5.10.100000.7 - 29/3/2006)
    7. Run Windows Update.
    8.Installed southbridge drivers from ati website (Version 7.10 - Oct 11 2007)
    9. Installed ati catalyst vga driver from ati website (Version 7.10 - Oct 11 2007)

RESULT : System didnt hang on first bootup but locked up after a few minutes use.

My last attempt is as per the second attempt above EXCEPT I did not install the southbridge driver. but got the same result as above.

If anyone can suggest anything else I can try, or would like any further info then please let me know.

    Thanks

    Terry
