After a bit of disappointment with the package :-
Only 4 uab slots + headers.
    No Fan mounting clips
Box to big leaving board to move in box
etc., (see post#2 in link below)

I'm pleasantly suprised with the clocking of the board see Abit IX38 Quad GT for more info & bios settings that may help you set your new board up.

    Hi all

Supershanks, just wondering how you feel this board stacks up to others you've had, ie.X38-DQ6?

I have had nothing but trouble trying to get a board delivered in one piece and made correctly at the factory, I've had 2x IX38 Quad GT's and 2x Gigabyte X38-DQ6's, all damaged in someway!

I ask because I was thinking of trying for a 3rd IX38 Quad GT?

Is it worth it or should I consider something else?

    Peace

Re: **Official ABIT IX38 QuadGT Review/Overclock/Guide Thread**

Hi D,M nore used rto seeing you over on Clunks
X38-DQ6 - is a better package & better quality heatpipes without doubt, the extra £ is worth it.
for the majority of people it wil be all they want.

    But

I like to tweak, dabble & OC. THe bios options on the X38-DQ6 are more limited than the Abit, there is also no windows oc feature with voltage.temp monitoring or tweaking to rival Guru.

If I was to compare it in car terms the X38-DQ6 is like a Saab saloon classy with a decent bit of power.
The Abit is more like a ford escort, for boy racers i guess. It has that something

Packaging on the abit is poor but i'm suprised you had any issues with the I've had any issues with the Dq6

maybe you need to change supplier

Funny thing is, is that they were both from different suppliers! Gonna try a 3rd supplier this time, but not holding me breath, as for one they all use City Link, not had much joy from them either!

Maybe I should open a pc shop local and buy my own stuff

I want the raw power but at the same time I wanna get into a bit of overclocking and start using pc in a more serious manner.

When I had the abit it looked and felt a decent board, and I was always an abit fan in the past (drifts off into a daydream with clouds and sweet music playing)!!!

Might see if abit bring out a DDR2 X48?

    See you soon at clunks.org.

    Peace

I used yoyotech for the dq6 was very impressed by the standard of packaging Even survived City Link

and I was always an abit fan in the past (drifts off into a daydream with clouds and sweet music playing)!!!
have noticed that in a few abit users, this is my 1st for a long time.
Think Gilgamesh is one of the few abit fans who have given an honest initial assessment, though perhaps more critical than me. IX38 QUAD GT Initial Impressions Unlike him, at least for mne the board is performing well, The issue with poor straps & the poor package sadly remain.

Might see if abit bring out a DDR2 X48?
I don't think so they ditched the IX38Max & are focussing on the X48 Which mainstream is inrtended to be DDR3. I'm going to sell a board & save for ddr3, £ wise ddr3 is what i paid back in January for my Cellshock 8000 ddr2. It's just that DDR2 is so heavily discounted now, you don't feel like shifting.

    See you soon at clunks.org.
Yep or maybe next forum you sign up for I'm a bit of a wanderer

Question Re: **Official ABIT IX38 QuadGT Review/Overclock/Guide Thread**

Was there ever any updated news about getting the missing fan clips that should've been in the box? Is there a revised version of this board being released, with also maybe some usb backing plates?

    Peace

    Not sure maybe ??
ABIT Sean will maybe be able to answer that best.
Maybe drop the qurstion on this thread Abit IX38 Quad GT where the question of both the usb pports & fan clips where posed. Will give it a bump if nothing else

    Thanks again Shanks,

Just posted there also, so hopefully Sean or someone else may have some info?

I really want abit to do well again, this market needs some decent boards that behave like the top of the line kit that they hype them to be!

Re: **Official ABIT IX38 QuadGT Review/Overclock/Guide Thread**

We'll I got my board , have got 4GB of DDR2 8500 Ballistix coming for it, a nice QX6850 to plug the hole up with, and currently crossfired X1800 ATI 512mb radeon graphics, I have already bought a couple of new alaska 40mm x 10mm fans one fitted to the NB heatsink, watch the screws are fine threaded and nightmare to get the angle on too fit, do before anything else on the board!!!!,

SEAN we need the clips to get the PW sink fan fitted!!!!!!!!(PS. hows MY RMA of the AW8D-MAX doing???)

once I get the clips its ready for the motherboard support for the vapochill LS brackets to get it nice and cool and clocked!!, should get this thing around 5Mb per core!!!

Had to bench boot it with dual channel in 2 bits only to get the voltage up for the ddr2 first, also needed to put a couple of harddrives onto the power supply to get start up as needs at least 2 amps to fire up the Power Cooling Turbo Cool 1KW-SR 1000W PSU Power Supply , but with 1.5 Tb of harddrives it soon uses it up with the crossfire cards,

will add more once vista 64 ultimate loaded as arrived today so almost ready for the big bang!,

any advise for setting would be good though guys, cheers

official 12 is Bta12.09 see feedback here M704b_12.b09 (12 Official BTA) Initial Feedback Main downer is that 45nm multi support is still not fixed.

    It's nice to be able to now use a range of straps. 3600, 9x400@1:1.50 = 1200 DDR2 5,5,5,12l
