    Bios update troubles

Yesterday I downloaded and updated to Bios V.22 on my AB9 pro using flash menu. However, during the flash It got to 82 % and my system locked up. No keyboard response or anything. After waiting 30 mins or so I had no choice but to switch the PC off. As you can imagine when I switched it back on it would not boot! It only booted to C1 on the Motherboard digital display. Harddrive and optical drives registered, fans and LED's operated. It didnt allow the monitor to come on!
I had to pop down to PC world to buy a cheapy motherboard so I get get some gaming in last night!

So my question is, is there anything that can be done to recover the board or do I need to send the bios chip/board off for updating by Abit? ( if the bios chip indeed can be taken out of course!)

    TIA

Did you uncheck the overwrite boot block option before the flash? Have you tried clearing CMOS?

& have you tried with a single DIMM?

The BIOS chip is socketed on the AB9 so is removable & replaceable.

    Re: Bios update troubles

Hi- Tried reseting the CMOS switch and tried both the DDR2 memory in each of the single DIMM slot. neither of the DDR2 worked in any of the single DIMM slot.

Managed to take out the BIOS chip it was dead easy. Just need to get a new bios chip from somewhere

    Re: Bios update troubles

I'm curious but if u remove the bios chip in a functioning AB9 Pro while powered up and put in the iffy bios chip, would it allow u to flash it using flashmenu? Ive done similar things with xbox modchips when a flash has gone bad, obviously very different technologies tho

If so ripper could send the bios chip to me, I will reflash it and send it back, I feel a little guilty since I told him about the new bios and sent it over

yes that does work, if you get it booted and ready to flash, then swap it out it will write to the borked chip

You can also do it in DOS from a floppy etc.
    It's called hotflashing.
