    IP35-pro raid noob question...

    Hello all,

    Just a quick raid question...

I am thinking of moving from a single disk set up on my ip35-pro (my raptor is playing up!) to raid1 on 2 500gb drives. I haven't done this before and was wondering whether or not it's possible to set up, for example, 2 40gb partitions for the raid1 windows install and leave the rest free and un-raided so I could get the full benefit of the space? Or, when you come to set up raid, does it only see the whole disks rather than any partitions (in which case I am loathed to do this as so much space would be lost!).

    Thanks in advance

Both 500gb disks would be seen as just one 500gb disk by the Operating System in RAID 1.

    Re: IP35-pro raid noob question...

I thought you could do that matrix-raid stuff on the IP35 pro, so you can have 2 disks but have two raid setups? Here is a quote from the intel site:

For those users who wish to combine the benefits of two RAID levels, matrix RAID is the solution. When using two hard drives, matrix RAID allows RAID 0 and RAID 1 functions to be combined, where critical files can be stored on RAID 1, and RAID 0 can be used for non-critical items such as software.

I am just building an aBit Pro based box - my first attempt and this sounds good to me too. The instructions for the raid setup in the manual seem to require a FLOPPY - amazing. I have just printed out the link you made but may I just ask briefly if it's possible to build the os on a single drive and then upgrade it to the matrix format?
    I have 2 Samsung 500 Gb drives.
