    FP-IN9 / 2x1GB PC6400 CAS4 / Memtest fail

OK, so this is a pretty long story and if I could merge all the threads I would but they it wouldn't be in the respective care section...

Anyhow, story starts off in the thread here and ended up moving to the Corsair help section here and now my troubleshooting has moved here.

To surmise the events, I am on my 3rd set of identical RAM, first set were faulty, failed to display a screen, 2nd set were ok but seemed to BSOD every now and then, 3rd set does the same. It is highly unlikely (but not improbably) that I have managed to purcahase 3 sets of new RAM that ALL have been faulty out of the box.

Now I will be attempting a BIOS flash (from BIOS 15 to BIOS 16) tomorrow (if all goes well with making a CD BIOS FLASH) to see if it cures the problem.

Please see below for screen grabs of the BIOS settings and results from Memtest.

Memtest result with Stick 1 in Slot 2: (ignore pass, I was playing with memtest...oh and i deleted the wrong picture by mistake, 1 pass had not yet been completed!!!)

Memtest result with Stick 1 in Slot 3:

Memtest result with Stick 1 in Slot 4:

Memtest result with Stick 2 in Slot 1:

Memtest result with Stick 2 in Slot 2:

Memtest result with Stick 2 in Slot 3:

Memtest result with Stick 2 in Slot 4:

To surmise, RAM modules passed all the tests in 1 pass with exception to Test 7 (Random Number Sequence) which failed miserably. It is noted the error margin (?) is the same on every error with each stick in each slot.

The system is in the "My System" bit.

Any help/assistance in troubleshooting this is GREATLY appreciated.

    Re: FP-IN9 / 2x1GB PC6400 CAS4 / Memtest fail

It could be that the mobo and ram are incompatible... this is usually a problem of the past but some boards are fussy over which ram sticks work and which don't...

If its incompatible, that would be tragic.

Is there an increased danger to flashing the BIOS when the memory produces errors under Test 7 of Memtest86+?

    Re: FP-IN9 / 2x1GB PC6400 CAS4 / Memtest fail

Normally it shouldn't be a problem to flash the BIOS. Test 7 is a very stressfull test (we normally test with test 5 and 7) and flashing the BIOS won't stress your RAM that much.

Please note that you use the following procedure with flashing. Flash the BIOS and shutdown the PC after the flash, make a CMOS Clear and boot, go into the BIOS, load the optimized defaults, save and exit the BIOS, go into the BIOS again and change the other settings (like the DDR Voltage etc).
