Even if it were Alpha, shouldn't the BIOS at least let you boot into windows ? It's obvious that they didn't test it...

That's what makes me think its a fob-off (or at the very least a "ohh look, we have found something kicking around, lets send it in the vain hope it works")

They could have tested it in no time at all, its a on/off issue, you know immediately whether the issue is fixed or not.

not necessarily which is why you rarely see alphas in the wild, they are just too unstable.
& it may have worked on their particular lab setup but as there are many variables on a system (incl. gfx card BIOS as well) that doesn't mean that it will work on every system even if the list of components is very similar.

Whilst i would normally agree with this statement, i don't think it is the case here, simply because they are working with a bios which already works with 99.9999999% of graphic cards.
The bios has already matured enough to the stage that all it requires is some small level of modification in order to get these cards to work...

if you are getting FF it probably is booting to Windows, just that there is no display visible ...

That's correct. The first time it fails it stops at 7F though and you can hit F1 and it goes to FF and then you can hear the disk thrashing that is windows starting.

The issue has been well documented by multiple people for ABit though........
