    Fatal1ty FP-IN9 + INTEL E6420 problems finding good overclock?

Hey sorry to post a new thread on my first time posting, I don't know if that's frowned upon here at Hexus.net. But anyways, I have a setup of a Fatal1ty FP-IN9 Motherboard + INTEL E6420 CPU I don't know how much more info you might need but I have been searching for almost 12 hours straight looking up how to Overclock my CPU, I've learned a lot, except finding anything that works. It seems that everyone either has the E6400 or E6600, it's pretty frustrating. If I missed something on these forums, (I've been searching here for about an hour) let me know and I'd be happy to read that and post again with any questions I might have. But I thought it would be worth asking rather than search for a good 24 hours! Because I WOULD stay up all night probably because I'm pretty wired right now. So if you have any ideas, give me a shout, especially if you have had this or currently do have this system and overclocked it! Thanks in advance. Have a great night/day.

First what your Memory and PSU? Also what BIOS version are you using?
Your board have two diferent overclock settings, unlinked (overclock your CPU/N.B only) and linked (overclock your CPU/N.B/Memory).

    DDR2 666.7

and my PSU is 600 watts I believe offhand I can double check in just a moment, if that's what you need.

if this info is not the info you are looking for just tell me.

I was looking into updating my bios to the latest version the other day, but I don't have a floppy drive so abit doesn't like that and I couldn't figure out how to update any other way besides a bootable cd and the files the abit website sent me aren't set up to work like that I guess. If I haven't supplied you with enough info PLEASE let me know and I will be happy to do whatever you tell me to so I can figure out how to help you help me. Thanks in advance.

you can update from an USB memory stick http://www.theraptorpit.com/forum/in...showtopic=2628 (scroll to post 2) or you can use Flashmenu which is inherently a bit riskier.

I'm pretty certain you can flash the bios using a usb pen drive?

Re: Fatal1ty FP-IN9 + INTEL E6420 problems finding good overclock?

I´m currently using BIOS16 with a 8400. Anyway before you update what you current BIOS version?
I REALLY recommend when you update your BIOS under DOS mode, for me BIOS16 dont work when i uptade via Windows, had to take my old and good floppy drive. (old good times, indycar racing instalation via 1.44MB, hehehe )
This BIOS 16 is quite mature, really Stable, and allow me a perfect daily overclock of FSB@1777 (FSB@444).

If you do the BIOS uptade give the BOARD a FULL CLEAR CMOS. After that we can star to change you BIOS to overclock. Since you have DDR@2667 we should stick to UNLIKED overcolck mode.

Just for the record i can go all UP to FSB@480, perfecly stable, but i dont like the strap change that happens around 450~, so for performance purposes i stay at FSB@444, runnig my memmory clock @ 667. Note that C1E works perfectly even with overclock !

    Good Luck !

I'll update the Bios tonight. Or at least try to, lol.

Also I can't post pictures yet so I will make some more replies soon if there are more comments, that way I can get my 5 posts. That way if I have any questions or need to show something in a screen shot. I can show it. Thanks.

Re: Fatal1ty FP-IN9 + INTEL E6420 problems finding good overclock?

I seem to have overclocked but it seems that CPU Z sees it at x6 multiplier and other times a x8 multiplier. I have it set to x8 and it just jumps back and forth while the program is open. Thanks

    Hi,

You must disable the C1E / EIST / Termal Monitor in you BIOS. Those itens are related to your CPU. After you disable this itens your clock/multiplier will not change between 6x and 8x.

So you did the over, what settings do you use? FSB, CPU Clock, etc...etc...

Seens pretty good to me, now we must see if this over is stable.

Download ORTHOS to test you CPU/RAM. Run in Blend Mode ofr some 6 to8 hours. If notthing wrong happens congrat´s , you over is stable.

I also notice that you are using Linked mode for your overclock, keep a look at your memory because low end RAM could bring problems to you if you run the mem at some high frequencies.

Nice man! Now test you over! Dont increase you over until you know that the current is stable.

EDIT: To FSB@360 to 400 i believe you will need to set some voltages in your BIOS, most related to N.B. I DO RECOMMEND that you instal a 40x40mm 3 PIN FAN into the N.B heatsink, if you plan to continue, you can also set AbitEQ to dinamic change the FAN rotation based on CPU Workload/Temperature.
