    IP35 no longer POSTs

    Hey,

I was enjoying a gaming session when my screen suddenly shut off (No signal). Now when I attempt to boot my PC the CPU fan does not start up. The GPU fan, case fans and hard drives all fire up fine.

So I did a bit of searching and I found the people were having problems like mine with the IP35-Pro mobos with the Corsair HX PSUs (Although I can't check the error codes because I am not using the pro version and well.. it wont post).

I was wondering does this apply to me using my normal IP35 (Not pro or -e) with a Corsair HX 520w PSU and is this causing my problem?

To diagnose other issues I have done the following:

    - Removed all components from mobo and tried booting. This just resulted in the same problem. No error beeps or anything...

    - Removed all components minus the graphics card in the hope to get it to POST or give some error. Same problem and no error beeps.

    - Installed CPU and 1 stick of DDR2 memory - no result.

    - Reset CMOS multiple times - no result.

I have been using the system for over a year now without problems.

    Thanks,

    Tom

obvious question - have you tried replacing the CPU HSF or at least the fan on it?
even tried it on a different header (although if you have reset CMOS it's probably defaulted to shutdown on low CPU fan rpm)?

do you have a speaker installed & plugged in?

full system spec. wouldn't go amiss either

No I have not tried replacing the fan although it should still POST without a CPU.

Yes the speaker is working as I can get it to beep for a power issue if I remove the power connector to the graphics card.

    Full system spec:

    - Abit IP35 Mobo
    - Corsair HX520w PSU
    - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
    - BFG OC2 nVidia 8800GT graphics card
    - 2GB GeIL DDR2 800mhz RAM

Left it overnight and when I came back in the morning it booted up fine.

    Rather strange.

    Re: IP35 no longer POSTs

I have had a similar problem, but I have a Be quiet Dark power pro PSU.
Adjusted UGURU in BIOS, then the problems started. (It had been working fine for months!)
The post reporter led stays on 83, sometimes going to 99.
If I reset the CMOS after a 99 code, it will usually boot to BIOS.
I have Profiles for different configs, after an F10 save it will usually not boot up.

My spare PSU is a Coolermaster, and this always works.
    My question is;
WHAT ACTUALLY CAUSES THIS MB TO NOT POST WITH CERTAIN PSU?

The PSU works fine once its up and running, so it's not bust. Is it a MB problem?

I have upgraded to BIOS 17, and this made no difference either.
    Any suggestions?

    Cheers

I had exactly the same problem, eventually my PSU tester just reported that the Be Quiet was faulty, and i abandoned it in favour of a corsair.

Never known a PSU to be killed by a motherboard before, and as long as the PSU conforms to the same spec as all the others (dont see why it would be different), I can only conclude its the board thats doing it.

    Oh dear Bob!
My PSU sometimes works though, especially after a combo of CMOS reset after a code of 83 then 99 a few times. Weird.
Did you RMA the be quiet?
They really are quiet, is it quieter than the corsair?

    Re: IP35 no longer POSTs

Well, when the 83/99 looping problem first started resetting the CMOS let the PC boot, but after leaving the PC powered off over night, it was back to the same problem.

Eventually even that stopped working and the PC wouldnt boot at all.

So, if youre still using the Be Quiet, and still resetting the bios, expect it to die completely...sometime soon

No, I havent RMA'd it, I just stuck the Corsair in and stuck it out of the way, messing around and phoning someone in germany wasnt something I had time to do.

    Re: IP35 no longer POSTs

I had the same issue with an IP35, I changed the PSU from a 600 watt Silverpower to a Cosair HX, bingo issue resolved. Couldn't fine an problem with the Silverpower PSU, it now sits in another rig with dual cards and an overclocked 4400+.

I think it's just a fussy board in all honesty and it's worth swapping PSU's if you have any available.
