    Abit AN8 code 50

    Hi all !
I have a huge problem with my MB Abit AN8 but before i start to describe it i want to apologize for my bad English because my native language is Latvian .

My brother has a external HDD and it just freezes pc when you connect it and he asked me can i help to fix it. I connected it to a pc and it frozen i disconnected and was interested to see the Event log. I says that HDD has a bad blocks. I found program something called HDD Regenerator and thought to give it a try (progamms description says that it could help to recover my HDD bad blocks) program was needed to be burned on CD/DVD and then i asked me to set the CD rom as a boot device. The thing that i don't remember is - i disconnected or not the external HDD before restart . I guess not.
So the problem is when i turn on my pc i get frozen on first screen. Its where you can see abit logo.
My keyboard freezes no responses from any of my devices. I opened up my pc and i see code 50 on display that is on the motherboard. I used Google i found that its code error: 50 - initialize usb. Anywhere where i am looking for solution everyone's saying that the error is showing because i try to boot pc with usb device plugged in usb. All my life i was using usb mice and everything was ok but now this error i gave it a try disconnected my mouse but still the same. Then i tryd to clear my CMOS memory but no use i shows the same error. Then another idea poped into my head when i was lookin at the mother board i sew that usb ports have jumpers on the motherboard so i gave it a try and disabled all the usb ports but still nothing. A have tryed to boot with just only CPU, GPU, RAM and keyboard running (some like to call them a core components) but error pops up anyway . Thats about it for my problem. I don't know what to do anymore i have tryed almost everything (i cant say everything because i know that something always is left - a back door, plan B, hope anything )

Any suggestions tips or anything have anyone except me occur'd this problem or i'm the only one on this forum .

If you have not already, try updating to the latest BIOS. While the latest BIOS was supposed to fix USB issues for X2 CPU's, who knows it might help yours too.....

    Re: Abit AN8 code 50

External HDD is Iomega and i have thought about updating bios but i cant get till update screen my pc freezes at first screen. I have tryed to enter bios but no success it just hangs. Another interesting thing i saw and forgot to mentioned is that at power on i tryed to press Tab to see post screen and if regularly it shows my CPU, RAM, DVD the only thing that it shows now is CPU and RAM selftest with only 1024kb of ram tested and then it hangs (I have 1024MB RAM 2 sticks wich i have tested separately and still the same 1024kb test passed and hanged). Ill try to get another RAM and see if it helps but i doubt because the code 50 is nothing to do with RAM but ill give it a try.

I have another question is there any way i can reset my MB setting except CMOS jumper is there something like hard reset or forced reset ?

    Re: Abit AN8 code 50

As i guested. Just got RAM and tested POST screen shows the same 1024kb tested and hangs then the RAM isnt faulty 100% tested my RAM on other PC everything is fine. Any solution that i personally see is to change the BIOS chip on the motherboard i only think is it possible to order it at PC shop. But the main question - is it replaceable ? I know some MB have chips soldered on boards but mine seems to be removable and i think it could be solution if i swap the chips.

    yes, it's user replaceable.
