    Unhappy IP35 PRO-XE and Q6700 cont...

    Hi All,

I went and did it... I've upgrade from p4 3.2 to a Q6700 and from 2x2GB OCZ Titanium 4-4-4-15 to 4x2GB. I am using this to run windows 7 64bit

The sad thing is, its really not overclocking well... at all.

I used to get 4-4-4-12 from the ram at 932Mhz and 2.2V with the Pentium 4

However now with 8GB and the Q6600 I can't get better than 5-5-5-18 at 2.25V

If I set it to the rated timings in the bios I get a Bluesceen when I get to windows.

Also I cant seem to get even a 300MHz FSB to run prime stable even with a few extra volts.

I have tried setting the multi down to 8, but strangely although it says the settings have taken in the bios, when I run CPU-Z while running Prime95(64-bit) it still uses a 10X multi, before crashing.

I think I need some help from someone who is less of a noob than me

8GB is definitely going to have an effect on how fast that you can run the RAM.
Have you increased Vmch at all?

don't run CPU-Z & the uGuru GUI at the same time as they fight over the same resources.

    Re: IP35 PRO-XE and Q6700 cont...

OK, Had a fiddle with Vmch and put it up to just under 1.6V... will this cause MB damage? its NB voltage right?

Also I found that disabling Speedstep does not stop speedstep (still goes down to 6x) BUT it DOES stop it running at 10X Multi when I set the bios to 8x

I have lowered CPU vCore back down to 1.35 as I am getting heat problems (freezer7pro cant quite manage...)

My best efforts are now much better tho. I have not left it for a long run yet, but have passed 7 iterations of Prime95 Torture test with following settings:

    8x Multi, 400Mhz FSB for 3.2GHz
    Ram at 1:1 800Mhz @4-4-4-15 and 2.25 Volts

    or

    10x Multi, 300Mhz FSB for 3.0Ghz
    Ram at 3:2 900Mhz @5-5-5-18 and 2.25V

    So I am much happier.

Also thanks for the tip about U-Guru. I was getting crashes when I had it open, I thought it was having problems with windows 7. Also it reports higer temps than Coretemp .99

Temps at 3.2Ghz 1600FSB with coretemp are still a bit high despite it being stable. When under stress test, 2 cores sit at between 58and 63 deg and the other two between 50 and 55. It went up to 66 very briefly, but didnt crash.

will running at 7x multi and 400fsb lower temps enough for everyday use or do i need to go for a lower fsb? only the ram only seems to run nice at 1:1...

Or do I just need to stump for a Noctuna?

What happens if you try it with only two sticks of RAM.
