Exclamation Installing XP on an IB9

    Hi folks,

I'm just doing a reinstall of XP from CD, now I remember from last time that F6 ITE drivers are required before XP setup runs, and that my CDROM needs the SATA bridge attached that the IB9 shipped with.

Trouble is I can't remember how to link it up, I have the following:

SATA3 --> SATA connector on bridge
PSU --> Back of CDROM as normal
Other end of sata bridge, the other connector plugged into "CD1" on the mobo

When I boot with XP CD in the drive, and "SATA CDROM" as 1st in bios boot sequence, the message I get after POST etc is:

"DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

Never seen this before tbh, and could really do with some help, how in god's name do I install XP on my IB9!???

Please help asap I'm going nuts!

If you need more details please ask...

Re: Installing XP on an IB9

are you actually using any IDE drives (presumably the CDROM) ?
If so then why use the SATA bridge rather than the IDE connectors on the mobo?
If not then why use the ITE controller at all or even if yes why not try using the SATA bridge into the ICH8 SATA ports?

also check that your SATA optical isn't listed explicitly rather than as the generic SATA CDROM.

Re: Installing XP on an IB9

Thanks for the reply mate, the actual branded CDROM is not listed in the BIOS, just generic SATA CDROM.

My CDROM is usually connected via IDE (that's the long flat one yeh?) and my HDD's by SATA, but if you install XP with the IB9 with this setup it gives you a BSOD mid way through installation because of lack of support for IDE.

Hence in the manual it describes using the SATA bridge, but it's been so long I can't remember how!

& you scrolled right down the options in the window?

which is why you F6 the drivers at the start of the install

Re: Installing XP on an IB9

I did scroll right down, and SATA CDROM was the only option, which leads me to believe I have not connected my bridge correctly.

I have that image in the manual, but it's not clear where to connect each cable on the mobo...

Even if you F6 the drivers using the floppy, if your CDROM is not using the sata bridge you get a BSOD...

I'm at a loss, I have installed XP on this but over 2 years ago and can't remember how it works, Ubuntu is looking more and more tempting!

Re: Installing XP on an IB9

have you tried disabling the ITE in the BIOS & using the SATA bridge into the ICH8 rather than the ITE ?

Re: Installing XP on an IB9

No, there no need to use the adapter to IDE to SATA. Use the option USB - CDROM in the BIOS to boot up with the CDROM drive. If you put this option as the first boot will work.

You have to wait a seconds while booting to work out. Also, copy the ITE drivers do a floppy to the windows instalation corretly find the hard drive. Press F6 just like BUFF said, and select the driver for win XP

    Good Luck

Right chaps nothing is working, I know definitely the SATA bridge is required on the master cdrom drive to install xp once I work out how to fit the bridge we should get it working...

So three connections from the cdrom drive out, one is to sata on the mobo, one is to power in the psu, the third is the right hand side of the bridge, 4 pins, small and thin, where would this fit on my mobo?

you do not need anything more as your ide cd-rom drive (and hard disk) to install XP on that board (same for WIN7 by using ITE drivers for XP x86 or x64)

the only thing is, like mentioned above, the ITE driver ~ 50 kb on 3.5"

    or

much more comfortable without 3.5" available

create with XP ISO Builder / nLite one XP / or "handworked" slipstreamdisc up to date, implemented Service Pack 3 and ITE driver
