IX38-GT3, uGuru Software complete uninstall or how to delete user-profiles?

    Hi there,

I am using an IX38-GT3 with an Q6700 & 2x2GB DDR3-1600 Mushkin. Unfortunately I found no successful way to set the RAM speed to 1600 in BIOS, even not when overclocking the CPU. I even got no success in RAM speed 1333 - when i set the FSB to 1333 (=3333MHz CPU clock) & RAM divider to all the 2.00-options (a, b, c) always the board hangs on restart.

But i know my CPU is able for 3.3GHz an even more (3.5 on my old AW9D-MAX were no problem at all), so I set the FSB in BIOS to 1067 (=original CPU Clock) & the RAM divider to 2.0B, now the board starts up fine with RAM Speed 1067 MHz. In Windows (Vista Home Premium 64Bit) I used the uGuru Software & set the FSB to 333 (1333), and so it was no problem at all to get the RAM Speed of 1333MHz (at 9-9-9-24 CR2).

Next I tried to do something similar in order to get the 1600 MHz RAM speed. To make sure the CPU Core speed won't get too high I set the imultiplier in BIOS to 6x, all othe options were not touched anymore. I restarted & set the FSB to 400 (=1600) MHz. From now on the system freezes... :-(

My problem is: I don't know how to reset the profiles of the uGuru software. I uninstalled the tool, restarted the system & re-installed the tool - but the profiles obviously were not deleted, because the system always freezes when I star the re-installed tool.

Can anyone help me out & tell me where the user profiles of the uGuru software are saved. I need to delete them... ;-)

    Greetings from snowy Berlin!

iirc it's held in the uGuru chip & they will persist through a clearCMOS.
you could either try replacing them with a set of profiles with standard settings or try flashing the BIOS.

Re: IX38-GT3, uGuru Software complete uninstall or how to delete user-profiles?

First: Thanks for your reply. Of course I'll try this: first I'll overwrite all saving slots in the uGuru-part of the BIOS itself with the Optimized defaults, afterwards I'll update the BIOS to the last official version from Abit (v12) under DOS conditions. Which in fact will be a downgrade - in order to get the RAM speed of 1600 MHz working I tried out the last Beta BIOS which is offered here in the forum (which actually was made for the E0-CPUs, but mine is not one of theese CPUs, so I don't need this update).

But to be honest I don't think this will solve the problem. I think the BIOS profiles of the uGuru software tool under windows are saved somewhere on the hdd. If I remember right the tool has many more saving slots for profiles than the uGuru-part has in the BIOS.

And besides this: I know very well, that neither a CMOS reset, nor a BIOS update overwrites existing BIOS profiles. So I'm not quite sure whether your hints will work - but nevertheless I'll try this & I will let you know what I found out.

pretty sure that they are selectable in BIOS (assuming that you have previously made & stored some) even without an HDD installed - that says that they are held on the board.

Re: IX38-GT3, uGuru Software complete uninstall or how to delete user-profiles?

You're right, the board has selectable saving slots in the BIOS - in fact 5 of them. But I was confused (or better to say: I assumed other "saving slots" on the hdd) because in the BIOS there are - as I said - 5 slots, but in the uGuru software tool under windows there are 7 of them:

    -Default
    -Normal
    -Turbo
    -Quiet
    -User 1
    -User 2
    -User 3

The board always (& of course) uses the BIOS profile selected in the BIOS, until Windows is loaded & the uGuru software comes up (either if it is started by autostart, or it is started manually). From now on either the board runs in default- settings (stored in the uGuru software - NOT in BIOS defaults!), or it runs in the last operating mode, which was used in the uGuru software. Wether it runs in Default or in another profile can be selected in the uGuru software itself in the general settings.

And exactly this was my problem: In my old installation(s) the option "Automatically change to last operate mode when execute" was enabled. As I described I tried to get the FSB 1600 MHz (=1600 MHz RAM speed), so I set the ExtClk to 400 MHz in the profile "User1". This made the system freeze - i had to switch off & reset the BIOS by button, restart & go in the BIOS, loading the "Optimized Defaults". So the system once again started fine, windows was loaded & ran fine - until I restarted the uGuru software: The system freezed again immediately...

So this made myself quite sure that there is no direct connection between the BIOS saving slots & the saving slots of the uGuru software. But: I unstalled the uGuru software, afterwards I made the BIOS update (from newer BIOS for the E0-CPUs down to the last official BIOS v12) & then I overwrote all 5 saving slots in the BIOS with the optimized defaults.

And what can I say: It worked! Once again I installed the uGuru software and I started it, it worked fine! All 7 saving slots (except "Turbo" & "Normal", which are overclocking profiles made by Abit) were in factory defaults: EctClk 272 MHz for my Q6700, which is exactly the same as in the BIOS itself when the "Optimized Defaults" are loaded.

So obviously I cann tell you 2 things:

1.) My Problem is solved. Thanks for your help!

2.) After all obvously there must be a connection between the saving slots of the uGuru software under windows & the BIOS saviong slots - anyhow the number of the particular saving slots differ...
