IP35 Pro switches on and off - PSU problem??

    Hi,

Last night I tried to turn my desktop on, it would power up and then switch off and repeat until I turned the mains power off.

The IP35 Pro was getting to 8.3. (ATX Power Supply Ready) when trying to turn on then it would go to 9.9.(Complete Power Off Seq).

My question is, does the IP35 show the last POST code that it successfully completed and that it's having trouble with the next, ie 8.3. was OK but it's having a problem with 8.4. (DDR Voltage Ready) ?

So is the problem my PSU? If it is, I'll go buy another one today.... Can you recommend one that would last a little longer !!!!!!????

I tried shorting the CMOS before I knew the POST codes but that didn't work obviously!

    My system:
Intel Q6600 Quadcore CPU G0 (It was overclocked but has been stable for 2 years)
    IP35 Pro
4GB OCZ Reapers (can't remember any other details)
    ZALMAN ZM600-HP ATX SILENTPSU
    ASUS 8800GTS 512mb

    Thanks for the assistance

Re: IP35 Pro switches on and off - PSU problem??

I unplugged everything and cleaned the dust off, put it all back together and it booted up 3 times, then I tried a 4th and it went back to cycling though 8.3. and turning off.

So I tried another PSU, 700w Xigmatek NRP-PC702...... Got 8.3 straight away... no change.

I keep clearing the CMOS but it's not helping.

Can anyone help on this matter, I've searched the forum and there doesn't seem to be much help!

On the IP35 pro right where your case power/reset etc plugs into the board theres 2 buttons that say reset and power to turn it on without the case switches. Try unplugging your case power/reset wires from the MB and pressing the power button on the MB to turn the pc on. Or jump it with a screwdriver, your choice. This will rule out a sticky case switch. Get a can of air and clean out all the dust if you haven't also. If you can make it to your OS download SpeedFan and check your temperatures as well to make sure nothings overheating. Doesn't sound like it's a heat issue but you never know. You can also try booting with 1 stick of memory at a time.

If none of that worked your boards dead or the bios chip is dead is my best guess. You can get a bios chip pretty cheap on ebay just be careful replacing it. If that doesn't fix it you need a new mb. I had a similar issue and I had it narrowed down to the board, chip or psu. And since you tried another working psu that rules out that.

Good luck man. I got tired of messing with mine and and tired of not having a working pc so I went to newegg and just used it as a sign that I needed to upgrade.

    Thanks for the reply..

Spent more time on it last night, used the reset and pwr buttons on the MB, used a air can to get into all the places that dust could sit and still getting the same issue.

Tried the RAM is different combos, one stick, alternate sticks, both sticks in slot 2 and 4 and 1 and 3, didn't help either.

I'll give it all another go tonight, remove and put it all back again then will take it to the local repair shop, only because they can take out and swap components and try them in other PC's where as I only have the one.

Guess there is no proper fix for 8.3. on the IP35......

I would be hesitant to take it to a PC repair shop. I'm not sure about your area but most of the shops around here charge over $100 an hour for the first hour then $60 or so an hour thereafter. For them working on your computer for the first hour you could've bought a new board which will most likely solve your problem. If you do take it there and it's not the board I would like to know what you find out.

    Good luck man.

Re: IP35 Pro switches on and off - PSU problem??

    Good news for me....

I pulled everything apart, with the exception of the CPU and its fan, plugged it all in again and it worked, I managed to narrow it down (I think) to either a faulty 12v fan connector or a SATA cable not plugged in properly!

Everything is running and back to being OC'd \o/

    Thanks Evilution
