    Ip35 Pro Error 4E - HELP Please

    Hi Guys

Ive just give my computer a good clean out with compressed air, took out my graphics card and 4 sticks of memory.

Im using Abit IP35 Pro board with 4 sticks of 2GB RAM on a Q6600 processor with a Geforce 8800GTX.

When I rebooted I got the C1 error which means RAM problems so i juggled them about a bit, reset CMOS using the switch on the side then re booted the computer.
The screen then shows the ABIT splash screen asking me to press TAB or DELETE but my keyboard has not lit up as tho the computer hasnt recognised it.
Im getting a new code now which is code 4E

Can anyone advise what to do? Ive looked on google but couldnt find anything.

PS im buying a new motherboard battery tomorrow as I think that may be past its sell by date (CR2032)

Re: Ip35 Pro Error 4E - HELP Please

    Edit/
I found the manual and the error reads:-
    1. Program MTRR of M1 CPU
    2. Initialize L2 cache for P6 class CPU & program CPU with proper cacheable range
    3. Initialize the APIC for P6 class CPU
    4. On MP platform, adjust the cacheable range to smaller one in case the cacheable ranges
between each CPU are not identical

Do I need to replace by Bios Chip (been getting a load of BSOD's recently)

Re: Ip35 Pro Error 4E - HELP Please

I'd still go with a battery replace first, also try a full CMOS clear down and reboot with a single stick of RAM in slot 1 (the one furthest away from the CPU)

I've had problems with mine after nearly 4 years service, and following these steps (plus sadly replacing my GFx card) has restored me back to a working condition

OK Thanks, im taking the battery in to work to get it tested tomorrow anyway.

Regarding the RAM, are you suggesting putting 1 into DIMM 4?

Ive tested 1 stick but only into DIMM 1

Ive also reset CMOS numerous times but will do again tomorrow evening once I get a new battery.

Re: Ip35 Pro Error 4E - HELP Please

I had several IP35-PRO boards on my test bench at once, and they got into a flurry of having 4E boot failures. I cannot say which combination of tricks worked to revive them, but some tricks I used were to remove the battery, then flip the cmos-reset switch on the back panel, also move the jumper to ground, and leave it for about 1/2 hour. Remove all i/0 cards (if any), but you'll need video to see when it finally boots and runs. Others suggested holding the keyboard's DEL key down while powering on, and another suggested the F1 key. Finally, put in the new battery, set the jumpers and switches to normal, and try to power up.

A few of mine were cranky for days. New CMOS did not help (and I bought 2, and they were good).

Once it finally powered on, it stayed on. Go figure. Alpha particles? Sunspots? It'll probably work again, but I never figured out what made it fail, or, what made it well later.

    Good luck!

Re: Ip35 Pro Error 4E - HELP Please

*shrugs* for some strange reason I assumed DIMM1 was the one furthest from the CPU, guess I should read the manual

OTOH, it worked when I did it

Re: Ip35 Pro Error 4E - HELP Please

well ive tried everything, CMOS reset, battery swap, pressing delete and F1 all to no avail so i gave up on it today and took it into a shop. They said they would look it at no charge if they cant find the fault.
Most i'll have to fork out will be £80 if they manage to fix it.

Mt son is doing my head in as he has a beta key for Guild Wars 2 on Friday and Id rather pay the money to fix it that have to put up with his sulking on Friday if I havent got it working!!!

Thanks anyway for the replies, I will let you know how it went
