    Do you think a Gigabyte 780 windforce PCIE card will run on my Fatal1ty F-190 HD ...?

    Yes, I know what everyone is thinking...."Why". I can't afford to build another PC now and I really enjoy this motherboard even tho it is outdated. The Gigabyte 780 windforce has a card interface PCIe ver. 3.0. My Fatal1ty F-190 HD has has PCIe ver. 1.0...w/ a Quad core and 3 gigs of ram. Surley the card will be bottle necked.
    One ram slot deos not work...I just cannot get it to recognise a sim.
    Thankyou for reading.

    I wouldn't pair a GTX 780 with any socket 775 based CPU and PCIe 1.0... I'm sure it'll be hugely bottlenecked!

    Yeah i'd say ahaha. You're going to need a new motherboard with support for new components like higher PCIe speeds and better controllers and such.

    The drop will be much greater than that if comparing an old Core 2 Duo/Quad system with PCIe 1.0 (or even 2.0) against something like an i5/i7 with PCIe 2.0... It's not just about the PCIe bus speed.

    Re: Do you think a Gigabyte 780 windforce PCIE card will run on my Fatal1ty F-190 HD

    My only confusion is that if you are buying a 780 then you must have £500 to spend or there abouts. There are better ways to spend that sort of money and get a fairly reasonable system. You could easily get a 2nd hand gfx card 670 OC for around the £200 mark and there are various CPU-MOBO-RAM bundles out there that would allow you to upgrade those components for the rest of the money. Could easily get a decent spec i5 with that budget.

    I'm sure those more up to date with AMD equipment could tell you what to buy with that sort of cash and probably have some change left over.

    Re: Do you think a Gigabyte 780 windforce PCIE card will run on my Fatal1ty F-190 HD

    PCIe 1.0 at x16 will run at the same speed as PCIe 3.0 at x4.

    Here's Anandtech checking performance of an AMD 7970 at various PCIe speeds;
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/5458/t...cking-and-msaa

    No appreciable bandwidth bottleneck in most of the games at PCIe x4. Though GTX 780 is a faster card, of course.

    As for CPU bottleneck, it's worth looking at this article from Tom's Hardware where they compare a C2Q CPU to modern Intel equivalents;
