Does anyone know if/where i can buy a new chipset fan for my abit ic7 max-3?
would suggest u try one of the zalman NB heatsinks, while they are passive they are very good. Exactly which one will depend on ur CPU hsf, what are u currently running on ur CPU
Added links below to Scan, very cheap, both very effective (if case cooling is good) and silent. However be carefull, look at the footprint/height to make sure it wont interfere with ur CPU HSF. Note u may need to affix the hsf permanantly with the supplied apoxy due to the crappy hoops on the intel boards, or creative use of a paperclip
Zalman NB 1
Zalman NB 2

You can buy the fans direct from abit.

I don't know offhand whether the chipset fan is retained by pins or by adhesive on the Max3; I replaced the chipset fan with a passive Zalman cooler on an IC7-G, and that was strictly a glue-it-on job. If you fancy that approach, I highly recommend the ZM-NB32K or 47J. Be advised, though, that if your motherboard does not have pushpin fixings for the chipset fan, you will need thermal epoxy to fit either, and you will need to buy it separately.
If ur exisitng nb is dying as opposed to dead there are 'other methods' than can be employed to give it more life, just a thought
Thanks for your advice
I have a Zalman 9500 cnps heatsink for my cpu. I think i'll try the 'other methods' first before buying another heatsink, but if they dont work i'll get one of the suggested passive zalman heatsinks.
Will a passive heatsink provide enough cooling even though i overclock my cpu? my fsb runs at about 230
couldn't find where they sell replacement ones on the abit site
normally a passive NB hs will receive some offwash from the CPU hsf but since ur CPU hsf directs airflow directly to the rear of the case and u overclock a passive cooler may not be ideal, to be honest Im not 100% sure. There are a couple of active NB coolers on scan although the noise may not be ideal unless u use the bios to throttle the fan
If anyone wants an official abit chipset fan let me know and I can send you the information.
Yeah, i'm interested in buying an official abit fan if possible.
For everyone who wants a replacement NB fan. You need to send us 3 things.
1. Covering Letter stating the model of the motherboard
2. A self address stamped jiffy bag (Not too big)
3. A cheque or postal order for £6. Made payable to ABIT Computer Corp Ltd.
The same applies for graphic card fans.
We also offer replacement bios chips and bios reflash services.
Please let me know if anyone wants more information.
o this is handy cause im my other comp my abit ic7 max 3 fan has went too

The fan on mine was such a noisy wee thing, I disconnected it. Having kept an eye on the temperatures before and after disconnecting it, I left it off. Save yourself £6!
Please note abit does not recommend running a system without the NB fan running. This may effect your warranty if anything should go wrong.
Well then they should make more durable fans or supply a free replacement

Errrr...they do, for the cost of P&P - I had this option when the fan went on the IC7-G we have here, but decided to Zalmanise it instead.
i mean with it rather than having to send for one...... and it was a joke anyway :/ ive been using mine with the fan turned of for a year and it has a 3gig p4 overclocked to 3.7. No problems at all. Its my 2nd comp as well so i dont care if it blows up.
