Antec new 750W coil whine or not?

Hi, I'm looking forward to buy ANTEC PSU True power 750W 12CM ATX 80+ EPS CABL.MAN

Despite the fact that we end users shouldn't even worry about such things because engineers should make PSU right not wrong like some companies do.

So my question is simple does Antec TP New 750W has this issue with static inductor coil whine noise that you easily could hear if you short green and black ATX connector wires to start PSU without PC?

    Hi,

No, generally speaking it doesn't have it since its topology is different from those with the problem. The "whine" problem is however not always depending on one component only. You are totally right, you shouldn't have the need to worry about this at all but as you know not all companies build 100% according to the ATX specs anymore, everyone needs to make something special and cool and that's why it's more and more difficult to actually fit certain components together. The "whine" comes in most cases from a difference in frequency of components in the PSU and on the graphics card. But it can also be caused by losen components inside of the PSU.

Re: Antec new 750W coil whine or not?

I have just bought one, (TP 750 new blue). I previously got a X-650 but sent it back due to very high coil whine and tried one from Antec.
The TP 750 is is quiet enough but it does has coil whine too.
I can distinguish the sound among all the other fans, and when i put the ear close to the psu the sound is getting more prominent. It's like buzzing noise.
I guess ALL PSUs have coil whine, some of them louder than others.
I will keep in eye, if gets any louder I will send it back.

......I have tried different wall socket and, amazing, the PSUs noise is gone, no more coil stuff or buzzing.
I did not know that a wall socket could cause such problems!

    Hi Emy,

Power supplies can become sensitive to power fluctuations, and the components transforming and cleaning the power input/output can lead to the 'coil whine' that sometimes can be experienced. This can also be witnessed when using high performance, and power demanding, graphics cards.

Great that you could fix your issue by trying another wall socket. Definitely something people with the same problem should look into.

    Thanks and best regards,

Re: Antec new 750W coil whine or not?

    Hello,

One problem I came across with since I have got the 750 TP.
I have GA-K8NF-9-939 motherboard and had a FSP300-60PN(PF) that I replaced it with Antec TPN 750 blue PSU. I noticed a week ago a capacitor leakage on top of it, after a few days one more, today another one, the top of it is getting brown.
    Could TP750 cause such things?
With old PSU everything was working fine! Never had problems with it.
I have ordered some of Sanyo WG 6.3V 3300UF to replace all five capacitors on motherboard.
COULD PSU is not filtering out enough ripple because of lousy capacitors, this ripple now has to be filtered by the motherboard's capacitors?

    Any advice is welcome.

    Dear Emy,

Capacitor leakage usually happens after some time with older capacitors that are not of the highest quality. We can assure you that this is very unlikely to be caused by the TPN 750 PSU you purchased. All is well within specifications with TPN power supplies, and therefore cannot be the cause of capacitors starting to leak.

Has your system otherwise been working fine, before the capacitors started to show these symptoms?

    Best regards,
