Just bought an Antec H2O 620 (CPU Overheating)

I should add that on my first boot the system heated up to about 70C+ and turned itself off, unfortunately I couldn't get to it sooner, after about 45 seconds or so (didn't time it). I checked connections and tried again and it started heating up but I was ready so turned the power off. I pulled the pump cleaned the thermal paste off and reapplied thermal paste and it still wants to heat up the same. I've put power to just the pump with no fans running and I can't feel or hear the pump working at all.

Do I have a bad pump or is the pump that silent with no vibration?

i would have thought you would hear the pump if you put your ear againt it - are all the cables ok ?

anyway you could connect an amp meter in series with the pump to see if it is drawing any current ??

Yes the cables look brand new. I can't hear any pump noise without the fan connected (CPU off and just the 620 has power) and nor can I feel even the slightest vibration from the 620. I've got the Antec plugged into the CPU fan and another fan location on the motherboard and I've even tried connecting it straight to the power supply via fan adapter with the same results.

Compared it to another Antec H2O 620 and no doubt the pump is dead on mine. Here's hoping my CPU isn't damaged after hitting over 70 degrees celcius. It's an AMD X3 Rana 450 that's rated to handle around 50c I believe

good thing you managed to find another pump to compare yours to. where did you get your h20 from?
i thought CPUs should auto switch off when they get too hot...
anyway - best of luck with yours and i hope you get it fixed real soon

Mine did switch off but not until it showed 70+ in the bios but that may not be accurate I don't know. I bought both at Staples so I'll just return the bad one. My CPU temps in the bios are kind of high now but from what I've Google'd about this it may be normal

    Dear stangjason,

That is very unfortunate to receive an DOA unit like that. Please have it exchanged right away.

Your system and the CPU itself should be able to protect themselves from damage, that is why it turned off.

    Best regards,

    ANTECsupport
