it matches the mini, but also provides a little vent room underneath the mac mini which the other similiar drives don't do.

I agree, you don't need a super dooper machine to do that kind of thing the regular mini will do it fine.

You can drop the top of the range intel core 2 duo in them and they are supported by os x as others in the range have them. Lots have done this already.

Probably best if you work out what you want it to do before asking for help. It's a bit like saying recommend me a car or a van or a scooter.

well my original plan is a small form computer which can play videos, music run basic applications and do low end gaming. But everything is so good I struggle to restrain myself and buy a cheap processor always have to have the best or second best

What do you mean 'low end gaming'? You'll struggle running any modern games on a macmini - it doesn't have a discrete graphics card. If you want to play games, you're either better off getting what you have in your sig, or getting the macmini and a games console - which would probably work out the same price.

As an aside I'd avoid the RAID-0 stripe. I had that on my gaming PC, and it's more trouble than it's worth. There's a very negligable performance difference, and mine caused my PC to crash catestrophically.

The computer in my sig is already built and working well for two months now had to settle for windows raid as hardware raid caused my system to crash before windows boot. I mean light gaming as in just simple racing games like trackmania but I can live without I am using ubuntu linux on my laptop atm and happy with it miniclip.com lol . for any serious gaming I will use my desktop.

DOH, why didn't I think of that... I've been using that and the possibility of C2D minis to hold out for a while... If they added X1400 laptop graphics to the Mini it would rock. Or make the Mini into a Midi and allow 3.5in HDs!

Hmmm I wonder... I have an Asus Eee which is integrated VGA and it does low end gaming fine with a Celeron 900. I would say the Mac Mini should be fine for LOW END gaming. I mean, I'm playing Call of Duty, Red Faction and similar era games on the Eee which would probably fly on the Mini.

I must resist the temptation to buy that Mini tho... if Apple just dropped that price a LITTLE I'd be sold!

Methanoid just look on the refurb page as they often put mini's on there. Will drop the price by 15% or so.
