Do new Macs come with iWork?

Have a mate that wants to buy a new Macbook (have told him to wait for OS 10.5 but he is eager...), and £700 for the basic model seems about right.
To be used for iTunes, internet browsing, email, some Word documents (reading and writing), maybe film watching, that's about it.

I assumed that everything came installed (iLife does, doesn't it?) but i think he needs to buy iWork.
Can anyone confirm this, as PC World () have told him he needs to spend an additional, non-specific £140.

    Cheers

Re: Do new Macs come with iWork?

iLife 08 should come with all new mac's (though pc worlds ones maybe out of date).

iWork is often installed but its a 30day trial, its only £50 ish to buy a copy. Or neoOffice is free. Don't buy office 2004 as its terrible on intel mac's and about to be replaced.

PC World ones come with iLife '08 I got one from there a couple of days, they also have the trial of iWork and Office, but mirroring the comments above, Office is painfully slow!

Re: Do new Macs come with iWork?

All iMacs come with the new iWork, however unfortunately it looks like (at the moment) the other ranges don't

If your friend knows someone at uni he can try get them to get the Higher Education Discount and free 3 year warranty for a bit cheaper still

Re: Do new Macs come with iWork?

Im still not sure about all the rumors of a 12inch powerbook esk MBP.

Surely then it would defeat the purpose of the macbook?!

Whilst it would be nice to see a small MBP. I really cant see it happening! Although if it does il be quite pissed off! The main reason I chose the macbook over the pro was its size and portabiltly, although now its starting to be quite sluggish and I can feel the constraints of the system.

Re: Do new Macs come with iWork?

I imagine they'll just majorly refresh the Macbook Pro (new style keyboards, all LED screens etc.) and offer a super-portable version, there was a rumour that the refresh is coming in January.

You mean like it was when the MBPs were first released? I'll believe those rumours when Apple announce it.

It'll just be the same as the iBook and the 12" PowerBook. Considering there's a £350 between the top end MacBook and low end MBP, there's a decent enough gap for it to fit in there.

You'll be waiting a long time for a sub note macbook pro. There isn't enough gap to make the r&d worth it.
