What kind of mac is it? Does it have wireless N in built?

The reason I ask is that if it doesn't have wireless N currently most can be upgraded. Also there is a bug in the current version of os x that maybe causing your problems which might be worth looking into.

If you just want a usb one here is a mac specific one : :: QuickerTek :: nQuicky USB :: 802.11 n Upgrade

    Re: wireless n

its either a macbook or macbook pro! It was one of the first ones with the intel chip in it @ 2.16 Ghz - the exact model number i'm not too sure on will have to have a look underneath when its infront of me It has wireless g built in from what I could figure, or atleast seems to think its just g.

did read about that bug, hence trying to go round it with different hardware :/

    Re: wireless n

Ah ok if its one of the first Macbooks or Macbook Pro's you are left with some options.

If you have a wireless N router you can upgrade the internal wireless card but it's not an easy upgrade. I've done it on my macbook pro and it took 15mins or so, but I've taken it apart before.

There are a couple of guides on the web including here on how to do the upgrade: Upgrading the MacBook Pro Core Duo to 802.11n Wireless Connectivity

Bare in mind wireless N standards aren't set properly and in the UK we can get the full speeds due to the restrictions on the signal range I believe.

    Re: wireless n

yeah, its about half the speed you can get in america or something - taking it apart isn't an option for me even though i'd love to - its her work one... though i may be able to see if they will fit one if we bought it. and yep, we have a draytek 2820n router.
