My 20gb 4th gen iPod needs a new hard drive as it's freezing & skipping all the time. Has anyone done a DIY repair successfully & where to get the new drive?
Or has anyone used a repair service they can recomend?
I've done plenty of DIY HDD replacements, battery replacement and LCD replacements.
The main problem with a faulty HDD is that they are expensive to buy, meaning that its often not worth the hassle.
This is the drive
www.span.com - IMtx20a - MK2004GAL - MiniDrive, MicroDrive 1.8", MP3 Drive, Ipod, Iriver, Video Ipod, Vaio, Gal, Gah - Toshiba 1.8" ATA5 Diamond MK2004GAL ATA-50pin 79x54x5mm 4200rpm (20gb)
but this site says discontinued...
This appears to be an aution site (not ebay!)

get one off ebay ...
i have fixed an LCD before which you need to take everything else apart to get to, it was relatively simple as i followed an online tutorial - it took around 10 mins from start to finish
Surely any 1.8" will fit? not sure on connector. There are plenty on froogle.

I hope, after four years, the OP has resolved the problem.
