Can someone do me an Idoit's guide?

To setting up Networking and network printing on a Mac? From what I've just seen, after attempting to answer a question from a client, it seems to be more of a Dark Art than anything sensible (hoping to be proved wrong on that though)

goto System Preferences and then click on sharing. select printer sharing and just click on the printer you wanna share. are you sharing pc and mac? or mac and mac?

if its mac to mac then goto your Macintosh HD under sharing tab you should see the computer with the printer

Which OS? Normally it's a case of ticking a box in Sharing in System Prefs if you're on OSX, it's as simple as that. If it's a dark art, then it sounds like it might be OS9...

Re: Can someone do me an Idoit's guide?

The mac in question that I saw yesterday was running OSX 10.5.2 - and I was attempting to print over a crossover cable/switch box directly to a printer. Managed to install the printer, and it's in the printery control panel bit, but I couldn't see how to setup default printing prefences - is that something that you have to do per application or is there a catch-all setting like on XP?

I'm not being thick - it's just in 10 years of doing this I've NEVER setup a mac for network printing - it would be helpful if you treated this like teaching yer granny how to use it
