Anyone got a Mac Pro?

My G5 of a couple years just bit the dust. The 3-year ACPP expired in September and the cost to replace a single processor (second time round, and the logic board has been replaced once already) is the same as buying a 20-inch entry level iMac.

I already have a 24-inch 2.8GHz C2d extreme iMac in London so figured I'll get the Mac Pro instead. The 2x 1TB Samsung Spinpoints can move across, whilst I dump the rest of the goodies on the SC. The 2GB kit I got for the G5 is brand new as well from Crucial and I can't use that as the Mac Pro has fully buffered ECC RAM.

It also has PCI-e slots, and the gfx in my G5 is a 8x AGP (iirc)...

So, does anyone else have a Mac Pro; how do you like it?

Have used one at work.Seems quite speedy and amazingly quiet too! Even when it is running complex tasks the biggest noise seems to be the HDDs running!! It also has three PCI-E graphics cards too as we use multiple monitors.

I'd like to find a good way to RAID the drives in it - its quiet and efficient.

I will be doing a rebuild when my new notebook comes though since I've had this machine since March (IIRC) and I've never done a clean install on it

The Areca controllers work in Intel-based Macs if you are looking for a good raid solution.

I think mine should run fairly quietly since I recently picked up 2x 1TB Samsung Spinpoint HDDs. I went for the 'standard' config, 8-cores.

It will have the 320GB HDD as a boot drive, and the two samsungs will go in rest of the bays. So far I have *never* touched RAID on a Mac and use Chronosync to keep things backed up with a scheduled sync twice a day.

The 1TB drive will be a mirrored 'synced' duplicate of the other. I just tried Leopard in the store and it looks quite nice; been using 10.4.11 all this time.
